I've always liked the name Kimi, even though it feels more like a nickname and something that doesn't fit an adult well. So, I'm interested in finding a more formal name so that Kimi could be used as a nickname. Besides Kimberly (eh, so common) and Kimber (which I don't like), any other suggestions?

How bout Kimbly (kim-blee)? For first or middle, doesn't matter. I like it, but at the same time it feels like someone misspelled Kimberly. (And I'd be amused if anybody knew where that name came from. A lot of my LJ friends would know, but I bet a small handful of people outside LJ would have an idea, which is the only reason I'd even think of it)

I like Kimbly. It's cute enough by itself to be a kids name, and when she grew up she could always shorten it to 'Kim', since it does feel sort of youthful to me.

Kimbly is a character in Silent Kimbly, a webcomic by Ryan Sias.. Don't know if that's what you're referring to or not, but most people have the internet these days, so it wouldn't be that hard for them to get curious and google 'kimbly'. That's what comes up. I checked. :)

I kinda like Kimberlyn, too. Haha.

I wouldn't use it, though. D:

I fancy a lot of names that have y in them, or can be variations with y in them.. etc.

.. I like y. D:

Kimbly looks/sounds like someone doesn't know how to spell/say Kimberley. I really, really don't like it.

I really dislike Kimbly. It sounds like dog food--sorry. I hate Kimber as well, and they both sound made up.

I think Kimberly (or Kimberley) is... probably the best option, or just Kim. There are a lot of Japanese name you could derive Kimi from, like Kumiko, etc., but you could also just use Kim, or even Kimi, as a middle name, and use it as a nickname. I always like that option because then, if the kid wants something more "mature", she has her first name.

If you don't like Kimberly or Kimber and want to use the nickname Kimi, the only name I can think of is just Kim. I know a Kim whose name isn't short for anything.

I'm kind of the opposite. I love Kimberly and Kimber (with Kimmy as a possible nickname) but for some reason I just can't stand Kim!

I honestly don't think I've ever met anyone named Kimberly.

I think Kimberly is common on people in their 20s, but not common at all with young children. Your child would be in a different generation from you and probably not meet a lot of Kimberlys her age.

Sounds like an adjective. "I feel all Kimbly inside!"

I don't like any name that starts/incorporates Kim, really.

but I just really need to know, who is that boy in your icon? I've seen him in something recently and I can't remember where, it's really driving me crazy.

I know 2 people called Kimberlyn. I think it's a pretty alternative to Kimberly.

I am a Kim (not short for anything) and I get called Kimmi all the time, so that could probably be an option :>

Did you by chance get Kimbly from Full Metal Alchemist? ;>

Haha, yeah, actually I get asked that often. I get asked even more often whether I'm Asian (which I'm so totally not) or whether I'm a boy (since Kim can also be a boy's name in Germany). :p

Kimbly is one of my favorite anime chatacters but I'm still surprised I was the only one who knew where that came from.
I don't know anyone in real life who watches anime, either. It's so sad, I have nobody I can talk to about that XD
