Robert Rodriguez named his 5 kids:

Rocket (m)
Racer (m)
Rebel (m)
Rogue (m)
Rhiannon (f)

WDYT?

Everyone preaches a lot about giving children "suitable" adult names and leaving the cutesy alone, but I kind of admire people who have the guts to be kooky and fun when naming their kids. Obviously they don't care what other people think, or maybe they're just stupid - I don't know.

I feel like children of celebrities are never going to have a normal life anyway, nor with they have to worry about making a living and being taken seriously, so they can get away with crazy names. We poor people have to stick with boring "practical" names, haha.

Plus, I feel like almost any name sounds really badass with the last name Rodriguez, it's just naturally awesome.

I've loved Rocket for quite a while, though I'd probably use it as a nickname. I think it's really cool. I think all of these names have interesting qualities, and I appreciate that Rodriguez went all out. I think if you're going to give your kids strange names, it's best to go all out and don't apologize for it.

However, I have a minor problem with Rogue on a boy, as I associate it with the female character in X-Men.

I associate it with my dungeons and dragon's character.

Eshne, the elvish rogue.

Oh ya, I rock.

I think calling people stupid is a wee bit harsh. But I think the people who don't care what anyone else thinks are smart. GOL! If I named any of my girls after a celebrity, I would name ooen of them Valerie after Valerie Bertinelli. But I don't consider Val a celeb, but that's beside the point. GOL! If I did name one of my wee girls Valerie, I'd name her Valerie Faith. My other choice would be Mae Alexandria, after Mae Whitman, who is my favorite voice actress and a true inspiration to me. How about the rest of you?

It sounds like he's naming a team of superheroes not kids. And Rhiannon.

Rogue: a deceitful and unreliable scoundrel

While I do like it, and I usually don't care too much what the name's meaning is, this one is too much.

Also:
Rogue 3 : a mischievous person : scamp.

The connotation of rogue is more someone who doesn't always follow the rules, not necessarily someone who is bad, evil, or deceitful.

So everyone gets superhero names except the girl? That sucks.

I mean, the names suck in general IMO, except for Rhiannon, but if you're going to give all the boys badass names (Rebel? Rogue?) the girl should have one too.

This post just reminded me that I have a cousin named Robo. lol

We used to call him Robocop and think it was hilarious.

...I really like Rocket, but I would definitely not use it.

Definitely not a fan of any of them. Rhiannon is at least a name, but I don't like it, at all.

I think it's fine that they're so 'brave' for using a name like that, but they also need to consider their child's feelings about it in the future. The parent can be as nonchalant about it as they want; the kid is the one who has to live with it for at least eighteen years until they can legally change it.

I actually really like Rebel. It reminds me of David Bowie.

These names do lean toward "fun and wacky" rather than "stupid and embarrassing" for me. Rogue is a little much, but the others are fun. I love the alliteration.

As someone whose last name is Rodriguez and first name is Stephanie, I think these kids are lucky that they don't have something as generic as mine. I love Stephanie, but it's really annoying to turn your head every time somebody's trying to catch the attention of one of the other ten million Stephanies. Tack that onto Rodriguez, and I've probably got the most common Hispanic girl's name next to Maria Rodriguez (my aunt =P).

I love the name Rhiannon, too.

Hahaha. Rocket, Racer, Rebel, Rogue, and...Rhiannon. Sorry, but Rhiannon seems so out of place with that set. Maybe it's because she's the only girl, they wanted to name her something pretty? I dunno, haha. It makes me laugh.

Kr8iv spelling is a no-no, and I think people go over the top. However, I think it's good to match siblings, so I think all these names generally "match," besides Rhiannon. However, I think some are a little over the top. I like Rogue though, but I'm a huge D&D dork. I associate rogues with being extremely intelligent, and skilled - they don't always have to be evil! Although, they are always greedy.

I've seen some pretty cool more "unique" names, but the whole R thing is bothering me in this case.
