Mar. 5th, 2008 02:05 amWdyt of the name Riley James?
My cousin has decided to use it on her baby that's due.. uh.. in a few months. Soon, though.
I hate it. I hate it SOBAD. I don't know why. Riley seems like a girls name to me, and James.. well. James is her father's middle name. But she already has a younger brother who has the middle name James.
It just.. ugh.

Date: 2008-03-05 12:06 pm (UTC)I know it's used on girls' a lot now.
It's pretty blah, bit I can think of worse. I don't mind James with it at all.. My Dad & Brother have the same middle name & I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Date: 2008-03-05 12:36 pm (UTC)James is totally male filler, the equivalent to using the mn Marie on a girl.

Date: 2008-03-05 12:41 pm (UTC)I was named after my grandmother. So I can assure you, my name isn't filler..
And although I hate having multiple family members with the same middle name as me, it's .. kind-of offensive to be told one of my names is a filler name, lol.

Date: 2008-03-05 07:36 pm (UTC)Now, naming your child Bridgette D. Something, D. is definitely a 'filler'.. But it isn't a name, either.

Date: 2008-03-05 02:03 pm (UTC)but, like you, my son's name is not filler, either... but people will probably think that, because there are a million other Ryan James' who are only filler, you know?
but in response to your post: Riley is/was primarily a boys name, now it's trendy for a girl. i think it is good on either sex, but i prefer it on a boy, especially that spelling... Rylee, Ryleigh & Rylie are more feminine; whereas Riley and Reilly are more masculine. and as far as combos go, i think Riley James isn't too bad.

Date: 2008-03-05 10:54 pm (UTC)But then again, if you are using that criteria, my entire name is filler because my mother picked it based on "I liked it." And I'll name my children that way, too.

Date: 2008-03-06 04:27 am (UTC)I mean, why would Alexander James be a filler and Alexander Nicholas/Benjamin/Gabriel not? I mean, they all sound nice (just an example).

Date: 2008-03-05 08:01 pm (UTC)And Marie is totally a filler too. Just about every girl in my grade's middle name is "Marie" for no real reason (no grandparents, parents etc. with the name). It's actually really annoying.

Date: 2008-03-05 08:06 pm (UTC)My grandmother's middle name is Marie, that is why I have it. My name is also a translation of Alice, which is her name. Most people don't know that.
But it's still offensive to hear 'YOUR NAME IS NOT EVEN A NAME. IT IS MERELY A PLACE FILLER!' even if it's not in an offensive tone.

Date: 2008-03-05 02:02 pm (UTC)I love James. Call it what you will, but I really do think it is a perfect, classic name.

Date: 2008-03-05 05:48 pm (UTC)I'm not a big fan of James, either.
Overall, it's an okay name, though.

Date: 2008-03-05 07:41 pm (UTC)Riley is feminine to me and James, these days you never know.
How about they consider something totally different?

Date: 2008-03-05 07:44 pm (UTC)If it were my child, I'm sure everyone here would throw an even bigger fit about my name choice. I just don't like the name Riley James. There's already a Jody James, and a Noah James in our family. We don't need another James. And Riley is a girls name to me, but w/e. Not my baby, not my problem?
It's really not up for 'consideration' anymore..
