Wdyt of the name Riley James?

My cousin has decided to use it on her baby that's due.. uh.. in a few months. Soon, though.

I hate it. I hate it SOBAD. I don't know why. Riley seems like a girls name to me, and James.. well. James is her father's middle name. But she already has a younger brother who has the middle name James.

It just.. ugh.

you could suggest Reilly, to me that is more masculine.

IAWTC. I like Reilly on boys and Riley on girls.

Riley is a trendy boys name to me.
I know it's used on girls' a lot now.

It's pretty blah, bit I can think of worse. I don't mind James with it at all.. My Dad & Brother have the same middle name & I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Riley is one of the few truly unisex names imo. It is used for girls these days, but I still like it on boys too.

James is totally male filler, the equivalent to using the mn Marie on a girl.

If Marie being called filler is news to you, you must be brand new to this community. Welcome.

Actually I still get a little upset when I hear middle names being called filler (even though its obviously an opinion thing) and I've been a member here for quite awhile.

my son was named after my grandfather... but one of his middle names is James, because that is my grandfather's first name. but, that doesn't stop the fact that A LOT of people use it because "it sounds nice", like in the case of dozens of girls who have the middle names Marie, Nicole, Ann(e), etc.

but, like you, my son's name is not filler, either... but people will probably think that, because there are a million other Ryan James' who are only filler, you know?

but in response to your post: Riley is/was primarily a boys name, now it's trendy for a girl. i think it is good on either sex, but i prefer it on a boy, especially that spelling... Rylee, Ryleigh & Rylie are more feminine; whereas Riley and Reilly are more masculine. and as far as combos go, i think Riley James isn't too bad.

People just use "filler" as "It sounds nice" which is usually the method that Marie is used in.

But then again, if you are using that criteria, my entire name is filler because my mother picked it based on "I liked it." And I'll name my children that way, too.

You are so right! No one ever complains about a filler first name, even if its really common. Who picks a name for their kids that they don't think sounds nice?

I mean, why would Alexander James be a filler and Alexander Nicholas/Benjamin/Gabriel not? I mean, they all sound nice (just an example).

I agree. James is a filler name. It's a nice one, I love the name James, nice, classic, strong.

And Marie is totally a filler too. Just about every girl in my grade's middle name is "Marie" for no real reason (no grandparents, parents etc. with the name). It's actually really annoying.

I like it. It's not very exciting but I really like it. Riley is one of the few names that I like for both boys and girls. James does feel a litte filler-ish but since it's her father/brother's name also, it actually means something so that's cool.

I really don't think its bad. I agree with the first poster about using an alternate spelling, but my nephew is Johnathan Riley and my cousin's daughter is Riley Claire....

I love James. Call it what you will, but I really do think it is a perfect, classic name.

im with you, i dont like riley one bit on a boy. its extremely feminine sounding, to me. maybe thats because up until a month ago, i only knew two rileys and they were both female. last month i met a two year old boy named riley michael and i just couldnt grasp it on a boy. its wierd, i know its "unisex" but it just isnt very masculine to me at all.

I don't particularly like Riley, but it's totally legit for a boy.

I'm not a big fan of James, either.
Overall, it's an okay name, though.

I have to put my two cents in: I hate it too. No offense to anyone who DOES like it, but I definitely don't.

Riley James gets me seriously confused about the baby's gender.
Riley is feminine to me and James, these days you never know.

How about they consider something totally different?

I wish Riley was short for something so I could suggest a longer name to people who want to name their babies Riley. It just doesn't age well and I don't think a kid named Riley will ever be older than a 21 year old frat boy.

If she HAS to use Riley though Riley James is not a terrible combination.
