What do you think of Miriam? I like it a lot lately. I like the biblical reference, its international, it has good nickname potential, and it is rare enough that its not heard all the time. Which nickname do you like best: Miri, Mimi, or Mia? How do you think it goes with my other favorite girl names: Catherine, Anna and Juliet? What middle names go well with Miriam?

Its a very nice traditional name. Its pretty :) I wouldn't use it cuz its a little plain for my tastes but it is nice :)

I LOVE it!! I'd shorten it to Mimi too :)

My fave combo is Miriam Sophia.

I think it goes really well with the other names!

i like Maryam but i think its because maryam is the arabic spelling.

I think it's rather ugly, a frumpy name next to Anna and Juliet. I do like Mia, though I love it as a nickname for Amelia.

I adore it and have considered it (my daughter is named Catherine and I think they go together well). I'd probably use Mira sometimes for short.

I like it. I like Mimi and Mia.

It's my Mother-in-law's name so it's hard for me to separate it from her but if I think about it objectively I think it's a pretty name.

Miriam

It's nice. I like both the Hebrew and Arabic spellings, you just have to decide on the connotation. Miri is the traditional Israeli nickname for it.

Biblically it's such a great story. Gosh, there's a really excellent book of women's stories with Miriam in the title, but I can't remember what it is right now, only the cover, and that's not going to help.

(I don't like Mia as a nickname for Miriam, if you're going to do that, include Amy or Ami as well.)

I don't like it, although that may be because it reminds me of Miriam McDonald from Degrassi. It also reminds me of old ladies.

I like it. One of my close friends has a little sister named Miriam. My friend is Natalie and I really like both of their names.

I was at a party with Miriam one time and a bunch of boys started teasing her for having an old woman name and then proceeded to call her Mildred and Muriel for the rest of the night.

I love it, definitely enough to use on one of my children. But my SO doesn't feel the same :(

I love all your other names, but I've never been a huge fan of Miriam ... I much prefer other variations of Mary.

i like miriam a lot, but personally wouldn't use it. it's pretty, and has an awesome story behind it. i like miri, but would rather mira (or amy :] ). i think miriam and catherine sound pretty together either as siblings or a pairing. the other first pairings that come to mind are miriam june, miriam christine/kristine, and miriam elizabeth/elisabeth.

I love Miriam.

I know a girl with this name and she goes by Ria, which I like.

I have always liked it, but not enough to move it into my top 5.

I like Marion more, but that is probably because of my grandmother. (her name)
