I'm newly pregnant, but my husband and I have been talking about names far before TTC.

My husband's favorite name for a girl is Claire, and I like it as well, but I've had a hard time finding a good middle name for it. I've considered using a family name, Marie, but I feel like the pairing of Claire and Marie is kind of...boring?

My favorite pairing is Claire Eloise (so far). What do you think?

Which do you prefer?

I used to know someone who had a daughter named Claire Victoria. I thought it was a very striking, unique combo.

Claire Marie sounds a little dull to me. I like both names, but not together. I love Claire, but I think it's better with a longer middle name, and I think Marie goes better with a more unusual first or middle name.

Marie is everyone's middle name.

Claire Charlotte
Claire Verity
Claire Penelope

I like Claire Eloise, though.

I loooooooooooove the name Claire. If I use it as a name in the future, I want to use the middle name Annabeth, but Elizabeth was a close second.

I like Claire Eloise. Eloise is used so seldom now, but it's pretty, and it's a good balance to Claire, I think, in terms of length. Claire Eleanor comes to mind, as well, but I think Eloise flows a little better.

What about Eleanor Claire, then? It flows better than Claire Eleanor, but it's a tough call between Eleanor Claire and Claire Eloise.

*sigh* Hubby vetoed Eleanor. Woe!

Oh, and I was going to mention Luna. I went to school with a Claire Luna, but Luna was her last name, and I always thought it was a bit strange for a last name but would have made a lovely middle name with Claire. It may not be your style, though (I'm not sure it's my style anymore, either, for that matter, but I still rather like it).

Claire Marie is very pretty. Not every name has to be trendy, retro, ethnic, or uncommon to be a great name (boring or not).

I love Claire, but I think it's REALLY hard to use as a first name. Not many things flow with it very well.

Claire Eloise looks pretty, but it's hard to say since the end of Claire ad the beginning of Eloise blend together.

You would definitely need a long middle name, and one that doesn't start with a vowel (it blends too much to be two distinct names).

I'm curious whether you're pronouncing it Clara, or speaking very quickly. Or perhaps it's a regional accent? *hmm* The only thing I'd suggest the middle name not start with is an R.

I think I just say it really quickly. I'm from the Midwest (MI) so I don't think I have much of an accent. :p

One of my best friend's name is Claire Felicity and I aboslutely love the sound of it.

I think Claire Marie sounds better than Claire Eloise but it is a little plain.

I know a Claire Elizabeth, but that's probably too boring. How about Claire Alexandra? I plan on using Alexandra as a middle name for Blair.

Actually, Claire is a great name to work with, so you're in luck.

I like Claire Emmeline for the sound and roll of it.

There is also a beautiful old song called "Claire de le Lune" (sp?) meaning light of the moon. I don't know if you'd be interested as it sounds like more traditional names appeal to you, but Claire is a wonderful name to work with in terms of imagery.

Other suggestions:

Claire Helicia/Alicia (I personally like Helecia better)
Claire Evalyn/Evaline
Claire Rosemarie (hey! It has Marie in it! ;))

Good luck!

I'm not a big fan of Marie unless you're using it to honor someone, in which case I would say use it as a first name because Marie as a middle name is PLAYED OUT.

I love Claire, and Claire Eloise sounds so good.

Claire Lillian
