But what do you name your kid to get the nickname Lola out of it? It would have to be something like Talulah, right? Or Lolita.

I am embarrassed to really like Lulu. It's such a happy name.

I have a friend who goes by Lola a lot and her name is Laura.

I think Tallulah sounds so juvenile, I'd rather just name her Lola.

my thoughts on some:
Lola - it's getting popular..especially with celebrities for some reason, but it always makes me think of some very sexual seductress.
Nina - it's growing on me, although i hate tina and gina.
Lettie - i know a woman who goes by lettie (or letty?) i'm pretty sure her's is short for leticia though.
Pearl - like it a lot.
Cynthia - not sure how i feel about this.
Marian - i thought it was usually spelled marion? either way, i think it's a great middle name because as a first name..it seems kind of old-fashioned and dated. plus, my great grandmother's name was olive marion, but she went by marion because she thought olive was embarrassing.
Edythe - i don't think i've ever seen edith spelled this way. interesting.

Nathan - getting popular. i like it, but would never use it since i have a bad association with it.
Gus - i love it as a nickname for august.
Marion - (see marian above)
Byron - it's okay. i hate brian/bryan though.
Emory - i love the sound of it.
Porter - i like it.
Llewellyn - i kind of like it, although i didn't know how to pronounce it for the longest time. i've never heard it as a male name though.
