There is a a lot of talk on here about the business card test, or "if you named your child that they could never be a doctor/lawyer/judge etc." I usually agree with these statements, but I got to thinking, "What are my doctor's names? Would I really choose a different doctor is their name was too weird?"

I had to look a lot of mine up. (It seems most docs have websites now...)This post was prompted by my realization that one of my doctors was named Dyanna - fairly kre8tive with a random Y. She is a great doctor, and my opinion of her didn't change when I saw her name.

Most of the doctors that I've known have had fairly common, normal names:

One of my eye doctors was named Johnette.

Also, there is a realtor in the area named Cinnamon. I think she has a creative spelling, but I can't remember it.

Oh, and the guy from Dick's Homecare. He does oxygen tanks and liftchairs and whatnot. His name is Randy Dick. That's my favorite professional name.

I agree with the judge issue, and I do agree that a more "professional" name would behoove you as a doctor, lawyer, PhD student, etc. One thing I've seen a lot are lawyers and other professionals who go by initials - T'kyleea Destiny Smith could go by T. D. Smith. Problem solved! It makes me wonder what their names are...

The thing about that criteria for naming always bothered me, because most of the time the doctors go by there last names. Your name could be Pokemon-master Smith or something outrageous, but very few people will probably know you as Dr. Smith
