Danielle (honoring FIL, Daniel)

WDYT

it's #116 for 2006. Near Lydia, Amber, Valerie, Brianna, Jade, Gabriella, Kennedy, Charlotte, Catherine and Bailey.

Is it trendy for now? Or does it sound too 90's?

edit: tho I'm anti-formal names that are mainly un-used, as some of you know, I would prolly use Ellie, Dani, Dan, Danielle interchangeably, so Danielle wouldn't be a "formal" name.

i think it's way too 80s/90s and everyone i know named danielle (which is surprisingly a lot) has disliked their name and people constantly trying to call them dani.

To me it sounds too 80's/90's. Just like Amanda (my name), Brittany, Lindsay, Amber, etc.

There's nothing wrong with the name itself though, and it does come with a lot of cute nicknames.

I like it :)

but what do you mean that Danielle wouldn't be a formal name?

oh ok, that was what I thought :)

actually it doesn't have that 80's -90's vibe the others say; it might depend on the fact I've never lived in the US, although my mom is american, so I don't have direct experience of that period, but whereas I do associate some other names to the 80's-90's trend (Jennifer, Tiffany, Amber, Jessica), Danielle isn't one of them :)

I'm not sure where I get the connections from, maybe tv shows, movies, music from that time, but if they're strong for some names, I guess they're not as strong for others (like Danielle), and maybe that could be an index too :)

I wouldn't mind that, however, because even if it's "80's" now, it might not be that way for the kid growing up with the name. So if you like the name, since it's a perfectly decent name, I'd say go for it :)

And I actually would say the same for even the more 'typical 80's' names, as I don't think that's particularly relevant, since we're talking about different decades anyway.

For example, the 80's names in Italy were Francesca (I risked being one myself), Chiara, Valentina, Sara. But people still give those names to baby girls and the connection doesn't seem to bother anyone, although anyone would acknowledge they were very typical for that generation.

It does have that 80's-90's stigma, because it was so ridiculously popular then, but I still think it's a beautiful name. It's actually my sister's name, and she uses it only as a formal name as well- she has always gone by Dani.

That is kind of cute- it gives it a more old-fashioned feel, I think.

Apparently, when the state sent my sister's official birth certificate, they accidentally had her named recored as "Daniella." My parents amended it, and sent it back since that's not the name they'd wanted.

My sister always says she wishes they'd kept the mistake.

It is a pretty name. I don't think a child born in the next few years will realize that their name was popular in the 80s. How many first graders do you know follow the naming trends of the past few decades? The child may enjoy running across adults with the same name, but will probably be the only one in her class. I think it is great.

Agreed, especially since Danielle wasn't quite as ubiquitous (in my experience at least) as Amanda, Jennifer, and Jessica.
