Girls names are really hard for me. I want this name to be perfect. My best friend, Melissa often tells me I have a "name for the week".

The middle name is going to be Michelle - that's already decided. We love it, and it will also honor my step-father Michael. But while the name is half chosen already, the quest for the "perfect name" is never ending.

I always hated Alysha - and I've gone by Ally for as long as I can remember. I like the name now, and go by it professionally - but I do also remember being a kid. Being surrounded by Jennifers, Jessicas, Meghans, Carries, etc. We had 4 Meghan's in my first grade class! My mother picked names that she though would be unique but not too out there and I think she did a good job.

The top four girls names are: Ava, Elisabeth, Sabrina, and Chloe. Grant, my hubby wants to veto Ava - which leaves me really upset because it's the name that I really like.

But I run into names that I like every day - and it's hard for me to not add them to the ever-growing list of "possibles". :) EG. Carmella, Danielle, Rosalie, Ella, Audrey, etc etc etc.

So, the quest continues... the boy name is equally hard. Especially with a husband who is insisting the boy be named "John". :) (no offense to any John's out there - but come on... the most common name for 75 years, according to the Social Security office.)

I would gho with Elisabeth. It's probably the best choice due to classic/timeless status, nickname possibilities, and growing up capabilities. I mean, she'd have a billion choices if she didn't like going by one of the nicknames, and it's unlikely to ever cause her problems, even if she didn't 'like' it.

My suggestion is to not stress on it too much, honestly. You could see your baby and decide he/she isn't even a Carmella, or an Ava. It may just not fit, and I'm a firm believer in seeing your baby before giving it a name. I already have names picked out for my future children, but if I look at them and the names I want to use just don't fit (other than using Arthur for my boy middle name, and Remi for my girl first name), I won't use them!

Personally I like Chloe the best. I like the name Danielle also, and Audrey is definitely on my 'possibles' list too.

In my opinion, if he vetos your favorite girl name, you should be able to veto the name John. I hate that name, though, lol.

if you're worried about a name being very common (like john), i wouldn't go with ava, elisabeth, chloe, danielle, ella, or audrey. elisabeth and danielle have been popular for a long time, while ava, chloe, ella, and audrey have all become very popular recently.

recent stats:
ava - #1 (2007)
audrey - #27 (2007)
chloe - #9 (2007)
danielle - #116 (2006)
elisabeth - #502 - but elizabeth was #11 (2006)
ella - #16 (2007)

i would go for sabrina, which is more uncommon, or with a name similar to sabrina (marina, sabina, sabine, corinna, audrina, etc).

a good alternative for audrey could be audra, auden, or aurelie. aubrey is good too, although that's pretty common.

danielle could be changed to daniella or even danica.

ella could be changed to elle, della, belle, or like you said, something like carmella.

ava could be substituted by eva, eve, avalyn, avalon, avery (although that's getting kind of popular too)

there are a multitude of names that are similar to elisabeth: eliza, libby, bethany, elise, elspeth, beth, etc.

the name clover is similar to chloe, though that might be a little too "out there" for your tastes. :P

whew. sorry for the long comment, but hopefully i helped. :]

Definitely Sabrina Michelle if you want to choose something more unique. The other three are more popular.

I love Elisabeth Michelle. There are a lot of great nn possiblilties in there.

Carmella - reminds me of candy
Danielle - Danielle Michelle?
Rosalie - this is my favorite of your picks, also the most unique.
Ella - SUPER popular.

What about:
Elena (Ella)
Beatrice
Claire
Caroline
Myra
Daphne
Rosanna
Eleanor (Ella)
Helena (Ella)
Eloise (Ella)

Ava is terribly popular right now. I'd agree with your husband and veto that.

Elisabeth is pretty, and you have the pick of Elle, Liza, Eliza, Beth, Lizzy, Libby.. etc

Sabrina is trahy to my ears

I've always liked ChloƩ, but would never use it myself because it's been too popular in England forever.

Carmela is gorgeous :-)

I love Sabrina and Chloe. I think Sabrina Michelle sounds better than Chloe Michelle, though.

Both Ava and Elisabeth (well, Elizabeth, really) are getting popular or already are popular.

I know a girl named Rosalie, and I think it's an adorable name, but somehow, the name doesn't sound "complete" because of the "eee" sound at the end. Lovely name, though.
Never liked Ella. Too plain. Spanish for "she". Eh.
Love Audrey.
Don't like John. Too many people have the name. Stand your ground, sweetie!:]

I love the name Ava, but she would be one of six in her class. I vote for Sabrina or Elisabeth. You can't go wrong with either of those.
