Ahhh! Wacky spellings alert!

I was on myspace, and on the home page there's some random videos, right? And it shows the name of the people who made them.

IAWTC

People aren't going to necessarily abandon their cultural heritage because they or their families have immigrated.

Good to know. On Yahoo! Answers people criticized a woman for wanting to name her daughter Mercedes because they assumed she was naming her kid after a car. My faith in peoples' knowledge of other cultures is at an all time low.

lol, I know a girl named Lexus and I'm pretty sure she's named after the car.

awlkteant I LOVE the name Mercedes! It's adorable, though I can't see it on an adult female, sadly. =/

True.

It's also the Ukrainian form of Christina, which is my Aunt's name :)

Ick, I don't like that at all. I knew a girl named Chrystine once and I thought that was bad. This one's much worse.

I think that if it's going to have one Y, it should have the two. I don't mind it. It's also Polish, so it's familiar in my family/family circle.

I don't really like it, but I prefer -tine over -tina, anyhow.

There's just.. too many y's for my taste.

I don't like it as an obnoxious American alternative.

But I do like it as the Polish/Ukrainian/other form.

It's pretty normal to me because I grew up in a predominantly Polish town (although I'm not myself) and that's how it's spelled there.

But if you're not Polish and just think you're creative, then no.
