Andrew's mostly become Andy's later on in life and I really think that's an incredibly unattractive nickname. My ex is called Andrew and I refused to use Andy.. seems too thuggish for me.
Abigail and Andrew do go well together, but they are a tad matchy.
Not really, it's just the most obvious/common nickname for Andrew, so I think a lot of people are tired of it. I know I am, though I don't think it's awful.
I actually know an Abby-Andrew sibset; they're twins and couldn't be any more different. I'm not particularly fond of the sibset personally; it's a bit too matchy-matchy for my tastes (and I don't like the name Abigail besides), but it's a decent set.
i love the name andrew, but it's a little plain so i'd probably never use it as a first name. i think i'll name my son (if ever i have one) elliott andrew though.
i'm not crazy about abigail, but that's probably because in elementary school a girl named abigail was always really mean to me.
I like Andrew with Abigail, but Abby/Andy could be confusing, so I'd definitely suggest going with Drew for a nickname if you use it. Aaron or Alexander might be good alternatives that don't shorten to anything that sounds like Abby. Of course, I don't know if you use Abby, so it might not be an issue at all, but I suppose it could still become one if she decides to go by Abby later on.
I don't usually like siblings with the same first initial but I do think Abigail and Andrew sound nice together.
I love the name Abigail, BTW. It's been my favourite name since I was about 12 (I'm 27 now!) If I'm lucky enough to ever have a little girl her name will be Abigail. I don't care what her future father says!!
Abigail has been my favourite name forever too. I always swore if I had a daughter, I'd name her Abigail so I did :) My husband fought for Annalise the whole time and I promised him if he let me name our daughter Abigail that if we had another girl someday, he could name her Annalise. So that's the plan, if this one is a girl.
I can see myself making the same sort of deal. I have other names I have loved for just as long but I actually imagine my future daughter as Abigail. I can't imagine her having any other name.
I like the name Andrew. My boyfriends brother is an Andrew and he dooesn't get called Andy *all* the time but occasionally people will refer him as Andy. Not Drew though.
I don't think Abigail and Andrew are too matching actually.. I think they sound great together.
It's been one of my favorites for a long time. The only reason that I'd never use it is because I had a dog growing up named Andorra nn 'Andie' and I love the nickname Andy for Andrew. I absolutely hate Drew.
The only way I'd use it is with the nickname Ender.
Also, I don't think Abigail and Andrew are too close. I don't really care if names are too matchy or anything. If you like both names, use both names.
I LOVE Andrew. I think Abigail & Andrew could work as long as they're not Abby and Andy. I like Abby and Andrew, but I don't like Andy as a nn, and I think it's too much. Drew could work, too, though, or AJ or something if the middle name started with a J?
Reading through other comments, though, I'd see more of a problem if you do have another girl later, and want to name her Annalise... Andrew and Annalise seem even closer than Abigail and Andrew to me.

Date: 2008-02-23 11:08 pm (UTC)If matching initials don't bother you (I have a thing about initials I guess), then it's quite a nice sibset :)
