Date: 2008-02-22 09:00 pm (UTC)I debate on whether to use such obviously ethnic/hebrew names like Zerizah as first names, but I'm considering it! :)

Comments most welcome!
Date: 2008-02-25 09:48 am (UTC)My husband and I are currently are pretty isolated from any Torah community (an hour+ to the closest shul, so we are only really able go on holidays as where we are has the medical facilities my disabled husband needs and I'm currently studying here) and as we were both raised secularly, my learning of hebrew has only really just begun. My family has a tradition of having a "normal" name then a hebrew name, mostly to blend into their preferred secular society (I now go by Elisheva rather than my first name Diana). My husband (Jon) prefers having a 'normal' name first as well, in an attempt to prevent bullying before a child can understand what is going on, but my combination aren't always very successful.
Each of the names has a bit a story and meaning that mean something to myself and/or my husband, I guess. I use hebrewbabynames.com for some of the hebrew name meanings due to my lack of knowledge.
- Celia Serach (heavenly abundance) came after studying the story of Serach bat Asher.
- Dominic Asiel (Of the Lord and Creation of GD) A husband favorite
- Emmeline Shifra (To improve/beautiful the whole)
- Edmund Neriah (Blessed protector of the light of GD)
- Irena Nataniela (peace, gift of GD) After Irena Sendler, who is a source of inspriation for me.
- Franklin Eran (free man, vigilant) My grandfather is Francis, but goes by Frank (and also after Frank Foley, the 'british schindler') and Eran was the great grandson of Yosef (my grandfather's hebrew name) so it's a double connection to a man who means a lot to me.
- Mirabelle Zerizah (to encourage wonderful) My husband really likes the name Mirabelle.
- Mason Zadok (to make, righteous)
- Winifred Harela (Friend of peace, mountain of GD) A husband favorite
- Zofia Varidya (Wisdom, Rose of GD) Zofia is a namesake
- Zachary Reuel (GD remembers, Friend of GD) A Hubby favorite, also a geek favorite as Reuel is the middle name of JRR Tolkien.
The others are combos I'm working on but aren't really 'meaningful' yet to either of us. We try to make names that have both namesakes which mean a lot to either of us as well as meanings for us.
