I guess its close to the "Aiden" pronunciation. Some guy in my neighborhood and his girlfriend just named their new baby this. Personally, it makes me go wtf.
This doesn't seem that odd to me. I gather it is Hebrew from the posts above, but my first thought was that it is similar to Elian, like the little boy (Elian Gonzalez) who was returned to Cuba a few years back. The picture of him being taken away at gun point still haunts me - he looks so terrified.
totally a real name as mentioned above. I knew a pediatrician with this name. he had an accent, not sure from where... in any case, I agree that it sounds confusing/made up what with the popularity of both Aidan and Ethan.
I kind of like it though. more so than I like either of the others since it combines the sounds I like from both.
It was probably an Israeli accent. Eitan is a really popular name in Israel. Now that I'm thinking about it, it's probably where the name Ethan came from.
Just my opinion but before I go WTF to a name I look it up online to make sure it's not a real name from another culture; I wouldn't want to sound ignorant about someone's ethnicity or cultural traditions. (I am not picking on you. I just thought this post would be a good place to mention it because I've seen this a lot here when it comes to names from other cultures. Saying WTF is not a big deal but I've heard a lot of ethnic or cultural names made fun of and I don't like that. Just saying, in the hope that everyone keeps it in mind...)
