From a sort of Western standpoint I don't see too much wrong with it. Niko is an adorable nickname in itself. It might be a bit odd from a cultural standpoint because Nikolai is a classic Russian name, and Niko sounds a bit Japanese.

But overall, I'd say don't let anything stop you from using a name combination you like.
