Opinions on the name Slade? I've seen it around a couple of times and hated it at first, but now I kind of like it. The only thing is, the baby will have a one-syllable last name, so a one-syllable first name may sound awkward. Slade Ball (Ball is my last name) - yes/no?

please no!

Slade Ball does not sound like a person's name, but rather like the name of a toy or gym equipment!

And that's lot worse than the syllable count, imo :P

No.
reminds me of people having their heads chopped off and that annoyingly catchy christmas song "Merry Christmas Everybody" so everytime I saw said child Slade, I'd get it into my head.. and it would probably frustrate me so much that I'd end up shooting something.. hopefully not Slade because it's not his fault he has such a silly name..
Maybe his parents though :-p

'To slay' - means killing someone, usually connected to knights and slaying a dragon or something.. lopping it's head off.

I don't think Slade is a bad name...Slade Ball is a but much, though. I think a fn with more syllables would sound better.

Its not a name I would use...because the only Slade I ever knew committed suicide when I was a kid...but his real first name was Erik...

Slade is all right, but I don't think it fits with the surname.

I really don't like this name at all. In fact, I went to junior high with a Slade and all I remember is everyone calling him "Slate" and making fun of him calling him a Flintstone. idk ...

but with your last name...def not. sry

Slade reminds me of the movie Velvet Goldmine, where the main character is a rock star named Brian Slade.

Slade sounds like the name of a bad guy in an action movie.

No, not really. I don't like it at all, actually. Even less with a one syllable last name as well.

no o slade, but i wouldn't worry about the one syllable thing. both my husband and i are one syllable name and last name. I love it - his two boys are, too, and I do like it so much, that I would rather have one syllable names for ours (eg: prue, troy).

but be careful so it doesn't sound like a game, as mentioned. "who's up for some Sladeball!" :D
