[identity profile] dorkasaur.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Since my fiance and I are planning on starting a family in the next few years, we have a list of names. I've gotten mixed opinions on all, of course. since everyone has different tastes.

Boys combos:
Jameson Hollis
Brighton Hart (though middle name isn't set in stone)

Girls combos:
Claudia Lilith
Scarlet Grace

I'm not sure how realistic Scarlet is, as we already know a couple with a daughter named Scarlet Olivia.

Girls (no combos to attatch them to as of yet:
Cecilia
Lorelei
Persephone (per-sef-own, yes, I know it's actually Per-sef-own-nee)
Emma (not sure if I'd actually use this, too used.)
Rowan

Boys (no combos):
Baxter
Caspian
Hilary
Emery
Holden
Sampson
Satchel

claudia reminds me of a cruella deville type woman but most people probably wouldn't think so.

i like lorelei (though i prefer the lorelai spelling) and emma. rowan strikes me as masculine, but it's probably just because i know a guy who goes by his last name, that being rowan. i really don't like per-seph-own, that's silly to mispronounce the name and it sounds awkward.

baxter is a name for your pet, caspian sea, hilary is a girls name and WAY too feminine to work on a boy, satchel is a purse. i like emery (though it sounds feminine to me), holden (though it's a little too blatant a reference) and sampson isn't terrible but i doubt i'd use it.

i've never heard the name baxter on a human, but i there are people on my street with a dog named baxter. so a dog i what i think of when i hear that name, not a baby.

and although hilary was a boys name originally, it is primarily used for girls now. thus it is a girl's name. just like ashley. my name is ashley and the only ashleys i've ever come across (which HAS to be up in the 30s or 40s by now) have also been girls. i cringe at primarily female names on boys.

Ashley is still pretty common for boy's in England..

I know more male Ashley's than I do females.

Hilary was originally a name for males only... my great grandfather and great great grandfather both have Hilary in their name (Hilary Harvey and ___ Hilary- can't recall his first name right now).

I like:
Cecilia, Lorelei, Emma, Rowan
Sorry I don't like any of the boys names. I kinda like Brighton but that's just because it's my brother's name.

Ugh, I hate seeing Rowan on a girl. I'm afraid it's going to the way of Tristan.

People use Tristan on their daughters?

Ouch.

Unfortunately. And it's completely turned me off of that name. We're now looking at Rowan for our boy, but it's discouraging to see people sticking it on girls.

I love Rowan for a boy. I still think of it as a more masculine name.

I like Claudia, Scarlet and Cecilia. Jameson isn't too bad though. The rest are not my style.

ooo i want Holden (Caulfield). I would dump Satchel. Emma is WAY popular. Scarlet Grace is my fave.

Eeek, don't post so small.. thats barely readable!

Boys combos:
Jameson Hollis- It sounds okay, but Jameson is yet another twist on the-en sound and it's really getting boring. Such a trend.
Brighton Hart- Although brighton is a place in England.. I actually really like it. Brighton hart is a bit much though. You should probably use a real name. Brighton James springs to mind.

Girls combos:
Claudia Lilith- Gorgeous
Scarlet Grace- Grace is so blah to me now, the generic middle name of the last couple of years. I love Scarlett though.(two t's)

Cecilia- Love love love. Amelia, Dahlia, Ophelia..all the -lias!
Lorelei- Never got on board with this. Seems insubstantial to me.
Persephone- Please don't use a gorgeous name like this and then botch the pronunciation.
Emma - Way too used.
Rowan- It's a boys name

Boys (no combos):
Baxter- I prefer Dexter.
Caspian- Really adore this..
Hilary- I know it was orginally a boy's name.. but it's so feminised now. I'd feel terribly sorry for any little male Hilary's.
Emery- Sounds too feminine
Holden- Oh.. trendy and screams "I read in high school"
Sampson- Hate it. Pretty much only found its way into the world because people though "Samson" had a P in it..
Satchel- Just call him holdal? Euw.. a satchel is one of those nouns that shouldn't be names.

Well, then don't use the name Persephone then.
It seems a pretty silly idea to use a name and pronounce it such that she'll spend her life correcting people out of saying it the right way.

I really, really like Emery!

Cecilia, Lorelei, and Claudia are beautiful for girls.

I only really like Claudia and Cecilia, as your taste isn't like mine at all.

i like jameson hollis a lot. i had a very dear friend named jamieson (spelled that way) so i have a soft spot for that name, plus it lends itself to many nicknames.

for girls, i like emma, lilith, grace and scarlet. claudia is a bit harsh sounding, but theres something i like about it. oh! cecelia i like a lot too, celia only recently dropped off of my list.

i dont like lorelei at all. i like persephone in theory, pronounced the correct way.

i like most of your boys names, with the exception of hilary and emery. baxter is very cool. i like caspian a lot, as i love the nickname "cash" for a little boy or an older man, so any extended version of that wins points in my book. samson is nice and lends itself to a nice, normal nickname, sam.

I don't like Jameson or Brighton. One's a surname, one's a place name.

Claudia Lilith and Scarlet Grace aren't my style, but they're not bad. Scarlet/Scarlett is really shooting up in popularity, though.

Cecilia - I like it
Lorelei - Meh
Persephone (per-sef-own, yes, I know it's actually Per-sef-own-nee) - If you're not going to pronounce it right, just don't use it
Emma (not sure if I'd actually use this, too used.) - Emma is nice
Rowan - I only like this one on boys

Baxter - Don't like it
Caspian - Like it
Hilary - Too much associated with females now
Emery - Always just reminds me of an emery board, aka a nail file
Holden - Bleh
Sampson - Don't like it
Satchel - Why would you name your kid after a bag?

I really love Emery... that may be because its the last name of my favorite goaltender, and also my cats name.

you could also spell it Emory, and Amaury, both are ligitimate names, the first being German and the second I forgot, but both are boys names.

I think your boy combos are very nice. My favorite is Brighton Hart.

Not too fond of Claudia, but Lillith is nice. Scarlet Grace is pretty, but both names are so overused.

All of your names are interesting, the only tip I would give is that if you're using a name people consider unusual give a common middle name so there are other options. And if you use a name like Hilary that is a boys name but primarily used on girls now use it with a classic masculine name:

Baxter Lewis
Brighton Alexander
Hilary Steven

Your girl names I pretty much like. Just don't use Persephone if you aren't going to pronounce it correctly.

I like Brighton Hart!

And Scarlet Grace, though I'd spell it with two t's. :)

Also, Cecilia, Lorelei and Rowan are awesome names, though Rowan is more boyish to me for some reason.

For boys I like Caspian, Emery, and Holden! :)

I love love love the sound of the name Claudia, but it was ruined for me when I found out it meant crippled.
Your boys names aren't my style, but I like some of your girls names, particularly Lilith, Scarlet, and Lorelei.
