My brother's girlfriend wants to name her baby (long story) Persephone. Um...okay...

Anyway, she set on Persephone at this point but is looking for middle names still. Obviously she likes out-there names but she wants something the kid can fall back on if she grows up and hates Persephone. My suggestion was Persephone Jade.

The baby has a big sis named Ariel for those that like to know that sort of thing.
Right now the last name is Hall, but that is likely to change, my brother is talking about adopting his GF's babies if/when they get married. (part of the long story)

My fiance suggested Persephone when I first got pregnant.

I adamantly refused.

I would suggest a name that wasn't hippie/gypsy-like... just a regular, classic, simple name that wasn't too granny-ish or old.

Jade is incredibly overused in my opinion...
The first name that popped into my head was Barbara. Sally is nice, too, but wouldn't really go with Persephone because of the "ee". Hmm... Cheryl?

I used to like Persephone, although you kind of rethink it when your Finnish friend tells you perse means ass in Finnish.

I love Persephone. I like the suggestion of using a classic mn. I think the earlier suggestion of Persephone Elizabeth works well. I think with a short last name a short middle name would look strange with Persephone. If she wants to stick with mythology Elysian might fit the bill, but with Persephone ending in an E, that probably doesn't flow well. Other ideas are

Persephone Helena (he-LAYN-a) Hall
Persephone Catherine Hall
Persephone Lenore(a) Hall
Persephone Nicole Hall
Persephone Liora Hall
Persephone Annabell Hall
Persephone Stephanie Hall (thats a joke:)
Persephone Victoria/Victoire Hall

Persephone Olivia Hall has a nice ring to it, I think?

If you'd asked me what I wanted to call my future kids seven years ago, I would have said PERSEPHONE PERSEPHONE PERSEPHONE. I still really like it, but I wouldn't use it.

I love Persephone, and I think that if she is going to give the girl a long first name like that a monosybillic middle name is best -- Persephone Jade sounds lovely.

i like it. i think i would go with something classic and simple for a middle though, like jane or kate or something.

OOh I like Persephone Jade!!
If only Persephone did not end in -phoney, I'd love it!
They might want to pronounce it the original way, which is Pear-SEPH-oh-nay.

Ariel and Persephone would be a lovely match :)

Although sometimes Persephone will risk beign mistaken for Penelope.

I LOVE Persephone.

You're certainly right about one thing: Jade is a very different style, so that if Persephone should dislike her name -- although relatively few people seriously dislike the name they've grown up with -- she can always go by the middle.

But yeah, kudos to her on the Persephone. I think it's beautiful, unmistakeable for anything trendy, and easily spelled to any teacher or other person who's at least had some education.

I wouldn't consider Jade something she could fall back on. it's not very, um, plain. something more classic would be better.

Considering the first name, I'd go for a flower for the middle name. Persephone Rose or Persephone Violet sound particularly nice, IMO. I also like Iris and Lilah with it (Lilah always makes me think of lilacs). Compound forms of Rose would also work well, like Rosaline.

I like Persephone.
