[identity profile] rotf-lmao.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
OK, I know this is probably a long shot, but I figured if anyone would know the answer to this question, it would be someone from this community.

Is there a babynames site somewhere online where you can search for names according to the meaning you want? A friend of mine and her husband are expecting their first baby after eight years of trying. They want to give the baby a name that reflects the triumph and jpy they feel at finally being parents, and want to find a name that reflects that. The only name they've been able to find so far that fits their criteria is Maureen -- which apparently means "longed-for child", but they aren't really all that jazzed about the name itself. And they can't find anything for a boy.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

behindthename.com is generally a better, more reliable source of name info, but babynamesworld.com has the search-by-meaning feature as well, and they have one feature I love--each name has poll results for people named that name, so you can see how well it's worked on real people; whether they like it, whether they got teased about it, whether it's often misspelled or mispronounced, etc.

Well, in the Old Testament, we have the story of Hannah who wasn't able to conceive and prayed and prayed and prayed for a child and finally had a son. It's a beautiful story, but if they are thinking of names along the lines of Maureen, then Hannah would work with that as it is a very different kind of name.

Along the same lines, Hannah's son was named Samuel and in thanks for her conception, she dedicated him to G-D. Sara is also a mother who prayed for a baby in the same way and Isaac was her child.
