(no subject)

I'm not copying the School House Rock post, just coincidence. I've been a huge Beatles fan since I was little and a friend of mine is fostering puppies and named them all after Beatles names-in-songs (Eleanor, Penny, Lucy, Sadie, Desmond, Jude, Maxwell, JoJo).

Here is a list of names appearing in Beatles songs: (XXXX= ones I like)

Girls:
Anna
Bonnie
Carol
Eleanor
Georgia
Julia
Lizzie
Lucille
Lucy
Madonna
Maggie Mae
Martha
Mary Jane
Michelle
Pam
Penny
Prudence
Rita
Sadie
Sally

Boys:
Bill
Desmond
Jo Jo
Johnny
Jude*
Maxwell
Robert
Rocky
Teddy

Other names from songs I like are:

Annie (Our Lady Peace)
Janie's Got A Gun (Aerosmith)
Jane and Enid (Barenaked Ladies)
Like Dylan In The Movies (Belle and Sebastian)
Phaedra's Meadow (Blue Rodeo)
Laura Laurent (Bright Eyes)
Sister Kate (Ditty Bops)
Sweet Adeline and Clementine (Elliot Smith)
Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town (Kenny Rogers...)
Under Zenith (Guilty Pleasure... Our Lady Peace again)
Jeremy(Pearl Jam)
Adia (Sarah McLachlan)

Anyone else inspired by artists/songs in their name choices?

I don't like Adia because it makes me think it sounds like labia when SM sings it.

lots of grateful dead/jerry garcia songs have good names! like reuben, jack, august, pearlie, cherise, stella (blue), ruby claire, althea, casey, cassidy, franklin, jimmy, stephen, and loads more that i can't think of right now. plus there are a lot of things that could be names, like scarlet, magnolia, sunflower, etc that aren't really used at names in the songs. i'd like to name one of my children after a grateful dead song.

and i loove jude and prudence from the beatles' songs.

ruby claire is in my top five as well! :) does your choice have any connection with the song reuben and cerise/rubin and cherise (and whatever other various spellings there are)? i worried that it'd be kind of bad to name a kid after ruby claire because she was sort of the "other woman" in the song, but at least she doesn't die of heartbreak like cerise. :)

i'll prolly be naming a girl Prue, but not Prudence. Nice to see someone else liking it. I have also thought of "Amber" from the 311 song, but the name has slutty dumb girl connotations for me :( :(

Among my favorite names are Layla and Jude, as well as Lily (Smashing Pumpkins- "Lily (my one and only)".

I'm also a Michelle, like the song.

I like Ruby Tuesday, from the Rolling Stones song, although unlike a woman I know I wouldn't actually use that combo. I might well use Ruby with a different middle name.

Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Josephine - from the song "Devil In Jersey City" by Coheed and Cambria
Goodbye Earl - The Dixie Chicks

Whispering Jesse - John Denver
Simon - Lifehouse

Layla - Eric Clapton
Sweet Leilani - Bing Crosby
Proud Mary - Credence Clearwater Revival
Waltzing Matilda (no idea who wrote it)
Ramona - Louis Armstrong

I'm a Melissa, so people always sing the Allman Brothers song around me. I definitely wasn't named for it though.

Yeah, I like Matilda and Ramona more for the literary connotations, too. :o)

I was named after the Allman Brothers Band's song "Melissa," which you only know if you're from/have lived in the South.

My roommate's name is Roxanne.

I was watching something last night that involved a man named Desmond and my first response was, "Desmond says to Molly, 'Girl, I like your face,' and Molly says this as she takes him by the hand..." Which made me think: Desmond is such a Beatlesy name to me, and Molly really isn't. Hmm.

I had a weimaraner named Rigby! Well, her license said Eleanor Rigby but we called her Rigby.
