Well, there  seems to be a lot of ZOE posts going on! Sorry I must add to it:]

Am I the only one who pronounces Zoe just "zo"? Everyone else seems to say the actual "e", but it doesn't sound like a normal name to me then, it sounds like a nickname.
That being said, oddly enough, the name Zoelie is on mah list. I'm not planning on ever using just Zoe because I didn't know how to pronounce it.

Anyway, how does the name Zoelie Verity sound to you? Zoelie, a form of Zoe, means life, and Verity means truth, so I thought it would be cute to have the entire meaning basically be "truthful life".
Just a few thoughts:]

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to say, Zoelie is really just a guilty pleasure of mine right now. I'll get over it in time:]

Zoelie sounds gross and looks made-up. Not to mention Zoe is Greek, and -lie isn't a Greek suffix (to my knowledge). Although I do really love Verity.

I pronounce Zoe like Joe! :)
Zoey is like Joey.

Chloe is different because it originally has the umlauts, so that's Chlo-ay, actually, but I can close an eye on Chlo-ee in english.

But I'm trailing off.. Zoelie reminds me of Joely, like actress Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck *love*).
It doesn't sound bad at all, but visually it looks a bit strange.

the first Zoe I knew was when I was in elementary school (mid 80s) and it was like Joe, too. I thought the E sound when i first heard it, was odd.

We write Zoe with 2 dots above the e so I don't know if they makes a difference how we pronounce it. I've always said it with the e though.
Zoelie's alright...but I think with Verity the endings are too similar.

I would have never considered that anyone pronounced Zoe with the one syllable.

But that having been mentioned, I now have no idea how Zoelie would be pronounced, but I have about 4 ideas in my head.

It rhymes too much for me. I LOVE Verity. And Zoe. I use ZO has a nn for Zoe, but I do say the e when using the full name.

We are about to have a daughter we are naming Zoey. I have been asking people their opinions on the spelling. This is just another reason in my mind to spell it with the y.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved Verity as a name. My hubby doesn't though. lol

Zoe (umlaut over the e) would be the correct spelling, and it should be pronounced (with the proper diacritical) Zo-ee. Zoey (or Zoe without the umlaut) is sort of an Anglicized spelling. It's Greek in origin, and they pronounce an e at the end of words- Daphne, Penelope are names of the same origin.

A name pronounced "Zo" isn't a name as far as I know. Maybe a nickname for Zoe (again, with diacritical, which I have no clue how to type).

Agreed. "Zo" to me sounds like somebody's parents just didn't know how to pronounce Zoë correctly.

I wonder whether these people would also mispronounce Chloë...?

I've heard of Zoe pronounced "zo," but I always say/think "ZO-ee," which is one of my favorite names. I also love Verity. Zoelie is cute (I'm guessing you're pronouncing it zo-lee, but I wonder if people might not think it's more like Zoey-Lee), but I don't like the double-e endings in Zoelie Verity.

My best friend is Zoe (with the umlaut!) and she hits the roof if anyone calls her Zo.
