i'm having a hard time choosing between matthew and cameron.
when we were expecting our daughter, we had matthew picked out as the name had we had a boy so this time around it's also at the top of of list. lately though the name cameron keeps coming to me. i had a dream the other night that i had a son and his name was cameron. before that i hadn't really considered the name since we were so sold on matthew but now i'm leaning towards cameron. i adore the nickname cam.
so which sounds better..

matthew john richard

or

cameron john richard

TIA!

i prefer the first combination (matthew john), but i think you should go for cameron since it seems you like that one more! it must have been floating around in your subconscious for you to have that dream and nicknames are important too.

or why don't you wait and see whether he looks more like a cameron than a matthew?

good luck!

Agreed! Wait and see, since both combinations sound good, and you like both names.

I think I prefer Cameron, but I really like Matthew, too, so I'm really not much help. Good luck choosing!

I really like Cameron! I think that Matthew, John, and Richard are all very common names, so Cameron would be a nice way to mix things up. Cam is an awesome nickname!

Definitely Cameron. Matthew is so overused.

I love both of them, so I'm really no help. The only thing I can think of is to maybe wait till he's born, and then see which name seems to 'fit' better.

Cameron was always a sticky one in my eyes. Is it pronounced Cam-ron, or Cam-er-on, or what. Different people will pronounce it differently, kind-of like my name (Alicia).. which is annoying, honestly.

I prefer Matthew John Richard. You can't really get any of those names wrong. ;)

I like Matthew. Maybe use the initials MJ as a nickname? There's a movie called Cameron's Closet that freaked me out when I was little and it completely ruined the name for me. It's an old movie...1978 I think? but its about a monster in his closet and my brother had no business making me watch it!! lol

I like both but i think i like Cameron that little bit more.
And i don't think that people will mispronounce it at all :)

I like Matthew better, but I always lean more towards classic names.

Working on a pediatrics ward at a hospital, I have seen the name Cameron really rising in popularity with newborns and young children (which you may or may not care about), and I've seen it on both boys and girls. That's not to say that Cameron isn't a good name, because it is (I actually like it a lot), but it is one of those that I assume will only further rise in popularity.

Granted, Matthew isn't unpopular either, but it's classic and ageless, whereas Cameron might be just a name of the times.

Cameron!

Oddly enough, it's not a name I hear often and it's actually a very nice one. The complete name also flows much better. Besides, I have FOUR Matthews in my class and there are several more throughout our tiny student body.
