Revised List
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:37 pmSo, we finally sat down and discussed names. We each made a list of names we liked, then went through the other's list with a highlighter and a ballpoint (aka veto-pen), then compiled a list of the ones we agreed we both liked. From there, I've come up with some possible combinations, though we've agreed not to set any names in stone until the baby's born.
So here is my list of potential combos. Vote if you feel like it. Feel free, too, to offer other names you think we might like, other combinations that you think sound good, reviews on what I've got, and what have you.

Note: He didn't highlight Aurora, but he didn't veto it either, and I couldn't bear to remove it from my list; it's my absolute favorite.
He really likes a few names that I'm not sure about. I feel it's only fair to consider them, since I'm asking him to think over a few of my favorites. One in particular, I think might grow on me. What do you think of Owen?

My opinions on the list:
I really dislike Elsie..is it a family name that you wish to keep for the middle name?
Everybody's daughter is named either Amelie or Catherine these days, so I voted against those too. Aurora is pretty, but I can't pronounce it in english.
Gwenevere is kind of out there (along with all its spelling variations, imo), and Rhianne looks crooked for some reason. Probably because I'm so into Rhiannon. Especially pronounced with a Welsh accent. Oh, the love.
Boys' names! Aurick? where did you guys hear that? :P
Auricchio is a cheese in Italy :P
And I'm sorry but Zane makes me think of "insane". It does have a nice sound, though. Teagan Zane would be my favorite of the list, but Teagan is getting pretty common as a unisex name (more for girls, from my perceptions).
Good luck with the picking out!!

Date: 2008-02-09 12:14 am (UTC)Gwenevere is a little out-there, yes, but we'll probably mostly use Gwen if we use it.
I like Rhianne more for middle names; it sometimes fits where Rhiannon does not. I'm iffy on using it, though, because it's my niece's middle name and I don't want any name-theft accusations.
Aurick is a Norse (or possibly Germanic, or both) variant of Erik.
I fell in love with Zane for a while, but I'm having second thoughts now. Since we're not making any for-sure decisions until the baby's born, I figure it can stay on the list; maybe the baby will just *look* like a Zane, or maybe not.
I really see Teagan as unisex, and it's one of the very few unisex names I really love. Hubby is adamant that it's a boy's name, though, so if we use it, it'll be on a boy.

Date: 2008-02-09 01:43 pm (UTC)My husband also seemed to pick Owen out of mid-air when I asked him what boy name he likes - totally not like our usual names (like our daughter Alexandra - old, classic names with lots of history) but we both fell in love it after a time and it very much fits our son.

Date: 2008-02-09 10:47 pm (UTC)I think that's what got me about Owen. It just sort of came out of nowhere, and doesn't fit with most of my names or his names, let alone the "us" names. And yet, it's not bad.... I worry a little at the lack of nickname possibilities, but I suppose going by the middle name is always an option.
