Middle name for Maria

Hi all! I would like to collect middle-name suggestions for Maria.

I like unusual as well as classic names, it should have personality but not be so strong to overshadow the first name. I don't mind a name that also ends in -a, as almost all italian names do, so it wouldn't be considered redundant here (I'm in Italy).

thank you!! :) I love how delicate it sounds and I also love to bend tradition backwards, so as it's typically associated to old-aged catholic people (it is in Italy), I think it's refreshing to picture it on a young person (baby/ child/ adolescent)

I had neighbors whose daughter was named Maria Antonia :D hehe
it was her first name, and they actually called her the whole thing every time!! that's pretty nutty, I think.

My former roommate was Maria Eugenia, but she was Argentinian so she pronounced it the Spanish way- e-oo-HE-nyah.

I thought it was really pretty together.

I think a three syllable middle name sounds great with Maria. The classics (very!) are Guadalupe, Alejandra, Giovanna. Very romantic, very Spanish and Italian.

What were you thinking? I'd like to hear.

hmm I agree with the 3 syllable thing!

The ones I thought of so far are Maria Isabella, Maria Corinna and Maria Josephine (but I wouldn't use Josephine here). But they're all 3 syllables!

I'm sorry but I strongly dislike Giovanna because it's considered very southern and low-class in Italy (I don't mean to sound like a nazi there), and it's also very middle-aged woman. Not to mention very common in older generations.

Guadalupe and Alejandra sound nice but I have no spanish heritage whatsoever, and my SO's name is Alessandro :)

That's funny-- I wasn't suggesting them as names necessarily, but as examples. They are nice, but so classic with heavy religious overtones.

Corinna is a lovely name, and I agree with you about Josephine as well.

Interested to hear what you do end up choosing.

And I must say that I completely adore your icon, so am motivated to respond to every one of your posts that feature it. :)
