I could see Aubree working... but never Aubrea!

I dislike the name Aubrey in gereral, though. Audrey is a better alternative.

Aubrey is, actually, for males and females.

If she meant for a male, then I suggest a more masculine name. If she meant for a female, then I suggest Audrey, because it's more classic/less trendy.
