[identity profile] requiem-morrow.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
One of my co-workers is pregnant. If its a girl she gets to name it and if its a boy her husband gets to pick the name. She's stuck trying to find a girl's name and is hoping its a boy:)

So to help I thought I cast the net in this community. Mom and dad are late 20s-early 30s. Mom is a probation officer, dad is in loans/real estate. They are African American but she wants a normal name (no Schnikwa or Princess). Mom is Taye, Dad is Larry (don't know if its short for anything). Last name is Spikes.

These are the names she is considering:

Kylie
Addison
Ellie Nicole

Of the three, I like Addison best, but one of our coworkers just named her daughter Addison Lauren.

So, bring your best!

PS...Mom is real big on the resume/business card test...and she has already refused the name Sharpe.

Hi! I hope you're doing well. Here are my top three favorite names for a girl! Gloria Faith, Celine Rose and Sophie Elisabeth.

None of them are great resume/business card winners, to be honest. Ellie is too much of a nickname to stand on its own (IMO!), and seems like it'd work best on a little girl or a 96 year old woman.

Kylie, awful.

Of the three, I vote for Addison as well, I guess.

Other suggestions:

Aubrey
Avery
Megan
Sophia
Annabelle
Mia

I'd suggest to her that Addison might be a bad choice because of the trendiness of it, and Ellie and Kylie are both kind of childish/cutesy. Eleanor Nicole with Ellie as a nickname would be my first choice.

It sounds like she kind of wants something 'cute' for a child, but that works well for the business card test, so I'd suggest ones with a lot of nickname possibilities, but that are really sophisticated sounding themselves:

Elisabeth (Libby, Ellie, Eliza, Lizzie)
Josephine (Joey, Josie, Joss)
Catherine/Katherine (Cate/Kate, Catie/Katie, Cathy/Kathy)
Eleanor (Ellie, Ella, Nora, Elle)
Amelia (Mia, Lia, Amy)
Margaret (Meg, Molly, Maggie)

Adeline is nice alternative to Addison.
Ellie to too nickname-ish to stand alone. It's lovely for Eleanor/Elizabeth/other El-/-el names.

I love Kylie, but Kylie Spikes sounds very sing-song. Ellie Nicole is cute, despite the fact that I hate the name Nicole, but I don't think it makes for the most professional name. Of the three, I suppose I'd lean toward Addison.

Ellie Spikes kind of runs together and turns into Elise Pikes. And Ellie is too much of a nickname for me.

if she's into the resume/business card test, she needs to ditch her whole list. Ellie might be half-acceptable, but the others need to go.

I vote for Ellie Nicole! And it sounds fine with the last name.

Oh, and I also like Makenna (with an A, not MC). It is an African name that means "Happiness". Nicole is French and means "The People's Victory". See what they think about Makenna Nicole Spikes. :)

Sharpe Spikes cracked me up. I like Ellie Nicole, but I think I would use Ellie as a nickname instead.

I love Ellie, but she sounds like she wants something professional... so I agree with the person who suggested Ella! (I could be biased, as my significant other is called Elena, and those are two of my nicknames for her.)

Actually... going along that theme, Elle and Lena work, too. Both could be either professional or playful. When I think "Elle" I think of a fashion designer and a girl at a party, and when I think "Lena" I think of an all-business Russian woman and a spunky chick in camo pants.
