I'd like to make a list of names that could have Kate as a nickname (apart from Katherine...). Any contributions would be appreciated!

But right now I'm thinking of just sticking with Kate as a first name. My favourite name combo is either Kate Summer or Summer Kate. WDYT?

Katherine
Kathleen
Katerina
Katrina
Katelyn

I prefer Catherine/Cate, but my other choice would be Katherine/Kate. I don't really like Kathleen, and I HATE Caitlin, because it sounds really childish (I dislike most -lyn names).

I'd go with Katherine Summer, with Kate as the nickname. I like the combo, but it would give her more options than 'Kate' would - she could be Katherine, or Kate, or Katie, or Kay, or Kathy, or whatever she wanted to, instead of being limited to one nickname.

Katelyn
Katarin
Katerina
Katrina
Katriona
Katia
Katya
Katrien
Kaitria
Kaitriona
Katalina
Ekaterina

I do prefer all of these with a C though.

In Summer Kate, Summer pretty much sounds like an adjective for Kate.
As in, Kate: Summer version :P

So maybe Kate Summer would work better.
But I dislike Kate as a first name, business test wins alone.

*Sorry, that would be "business CARD test"

Summer Kate

What's a business card test?

I like Summer Kate, but agree that it sounds like an adjective.

I used to work with scholarship applications and one person I helped had kids named Spring and Fall (Aviv and Tsav, in Hebrew). It was a little much. :)

the business card test is a hypothetical trial for a name: if you name your kid Nick instead of Nicholas, when he will introduce himself in a professional environment, for example, in the heading of a resume, other people might assume he didn't know better than to use his "nickname" in an official context. But it wouldn't be the kid's fault, because his "nickname" would actually be his real name. People of course wouldn't know that beforehand.

I don't know about Tsav but I hear Aviv (Aviva) is quite common among the Hebrews.. but yes, the pairing is a bit overdone.. especially considering one kid gets the happy, flowery season, and the other one gets the sulky one!

Makes sense.

Just FYI, Hebrew is a language and Israelis are a people.

Aviva is a popular name among American Jews, but it's a bit more Biblical than contemporary. Israelis tend to go with Avit for girls.

I rather like fall -- I don't think it's sulky at all. I love the colors, the weather, the "I'm getting a little bored of summer, time to go to school and hang out with all of my friends" feeling, the cross country meets.

I'm just pointing out that Fall isn't so bad :)

I myself am a fall lover, but in nature's picture it's the time for death of all things.. I'm not sure I'd want to impose that on a new life :P

maybe you're thinking of early fall, I'm thinking more of Halloween :P

sorry, I hope I didn't offend anyone!
I've never been too sure about the appropriate distinction in english.
I know there's "jew" and "hebrew" but I don't know exactly how to use them.
In italian they translate into the same word.

I think Summer Kate has a better flow to it.

I am a Kate, and I love my name as it is!
And I've never had anyone ask me if it was short for Kathryn/Katelyn etc!

Oh and I like Kate Summer better!

I like Kate Summer, better...

Summer Kate feels like Summer's just a word, like she could be Winter Kate or Fall Kate depending on the season... Like the different Barbies?

hahahaha that's the same thing I said!
but your phrasing was more amusing :P

Oh god... I could see it becoming a trend for kids to do. I think that's how all the creative spelling happened. I remember in elementary school people changed the spelling of their names all the time to be cool. Just another fad like collecting stickers or pogs? But it happened to seep into real life when parents started doing it...

I like Kate best as a name standing on itself! =)

At first I was going to say that I like Summer Kate better, but then I read the comments and I feel like the people who mention that Summer sounds like an adjective for Kate have a point =)

Hmm . . . I only know a Katherine shortened to a Kate. I'm pretty sure one of the Kates I know is simply a Kate. Katelyn (I like Caitlyn better, though).

I'm not too fond of Summer, so I like Kate as a first name better.
