Khalil is one of the names i like, but don't think i'd use. same with a name like Khalid.

my mother is Muslim, and there are such nice Arabic names that are very common amongst her circle of friends, but i just don't think i could use them lol

i generally love arabic (and also many indian) names. :] i've known a lot of people and have travelled in the countries etc.

you wouldn't use them because of the connection arab - muslim - terrorist they draw in north america or for another reason? i couldn't be more annoyed with the fact but that really is my experience here (i'm from europe, just live in the usa).

well, that's part of it, now that i think of it... i mean, a kid named Khalid or Tariq is probably going to get more looks than a kid named Jacob lol. and it won't be so much from his peers, but the parents. it's sad, but you know there will be parents who are like, "ew what were his parents, terrorists??"

i know that kids get picked on, i know they get teased, but i don't think i need to give anyone any more reasons to pick on my child lol.

plus, i think some just wouldn't "fit" my future (likely to be) very pale, brown or auburn hair, freckled kids haha.

yeah, that makes sense. if i had a kid that looked anything like me, it'd be rather funny of they had an arabic name too. :] i guess i would have to find the matching guy to make that work, lolz.

Interesting- I was curious because of how interesting the names are and trying to think of the neighborhoods that might lend themselves to those names.

the first part of the list is from a hospital that is in a more low-income area... the second part is from a hospital in Center City... and the last part is actually from a more suburban area- not actually IN Philadelphia, like the others.

the biggest lists are from U of Penn and Jefferson, but i can't access them. they get A LOT of babies, because they are two of the biggest hospitals, as well as two of the like ten left that actually have maternity wards here in Philly. they also deliver almost all of the women who are on medicaid during their pregnancy.

Ok people, this is getting out of hand: There are perfectly nice names for girls out there, why do people need to give them boys names? There is nothing even SLIGHTLY feminine about Alan... Or James or Brett for that matter, but lets not get onto that...
