[identity profile] anaphylexis.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

My top picks for a boy and girl are Henry and Temperance. I don't think they makew a particularly good sibset though. Any suggestions on either girls name to go with Henry or boy names to go with Temperance?

And the name Josephine has sneaked onto my list.
WDYT?
Any middle name suggestions for it?
Or nicknames besides Jo or Joey (both of which I despise)?

I really like the name Josephine, and my favorite nickname is Josie :)

I guess alternative ones could be Seph, Sephie and Finnie, but maybe no one would relate them to Josephine.

and for middle names:

I tend to like Josephine as a middle name itself, but I'm also a fan of going by your middle name:

Ivy Josephine (long-time favorite combo for Josephine)
Camilla Josephine
Emily Josephine
Emma Josephine

Otherwise I like Josephine Rebecca :)

Hope that helped

Growing up, one of my neighbors was a woman named Josephina who went by Ina (prn Eena). It'd be a bit of a stretch, but you could still use it.

Others (not saying any are good, they're just what come to mind):
Josie, Osie, Jos (prn. Jose or Joss, depending on your taste), Finn

Josephine Grace was the first name that came to mind for me. I know, filler name, but I think it's pretty.

FWIW, I think Henry and Temperance go kinda well together.

I'd stick with Henry and get rid of Temperance. I mean, how much like tempting fate would that be? I can just picture a Temperance with a drinking problem, so just...no.

Josephine is awesome. I like Josie. And it sounds great with Henry.

Temperance is no worse than any other virtue name--I'm sure there are lots of clumsy Graces and impatient Patiences out there. I quite like it, but that could be because it's my favorite virtue and Tarot card.

I never said it was worse than the other virtue names, did I? I hate Patience almost as much as I hate Temperance, and the only reason I like Grace is because it's a name, too. It's both, whereas Temperance, Patience, etc. totally sound like Puritan names, and like the parents expect certain things from them that they're unlikely to deliver. It's an awful name, anyway, regardless of the meaning.

I only meant as far as the possible irony goes.

I thought Grace became a name because mother's wanted their daughters to be graceful? Or they were talking about the Grace of god, etc? I don't think it originally started out as a name.

Correct. It's just one of the most common virtue names, to the point that not everyone associates it with the word anymore.

Henry is not my style, but I definitely don't think it's bad. I'm not big on Temperance, but I love the name Tempest which is somewhat similar sounding.

Tempest and Temperance could make an interesting sib or twin set--very similar sounds, but nearly opposite meanings.

Henry and Josephine do sound good together, but I dunno about Temperance....especially since it would end up being 'Temper' for short

If you think about it, Henry goes well with old-fashioned virtue type names like Grace or Patience or Felicity. Why not Temperance? I like it, and I think they sound just fine together.

I don't care much for Josephine, but it's not a *bad* name, and goes well with Henry. I'd probably use Josie or Phina as a nickname.
