I really like the name Harrison, and I've always wanted to use James after my dad.

Do you immediately think of Harrison Ford?
Would Harrison James sound too much like Harry James (Potter)?

What names do you like but hesitate to use for similar reasons?

I have a friend called Harrison James! I never thought of Harry/James, actually.

I didn't think of Ford until you mentioned him.

Likewise for Harrison James, but I'm a Potter fan, so I don't think ill of it.

I love it!

Who cares about Harry James, if I, a huge Harry Potter fan heard "Harrison James" I would never link the two.

There were two with it as a last name: Benjamin Harrison & William Henry Harrison.

I love love love the name Harrison. It's a very good, strong name.

I think of Harrison Ford simply because, actually, my first son's name is to be Harrison Blake, and Harrison was chosen because of Harrison Ford, who I have adored since childhood.

I looove James, and I love Harry, but I don't like Harrison. It's much too last namey. I'd actually suggest just Harry James, despite the connotation. It's a nice name.

I would only think of Harrison Ford if the you or the kid were Indiana Jones fans, the kid always wore a fedora, or your last name started with "F" or had a -ford sound in it like Bedford or Stepford.

Honestly, a lot of people don't think about Harry Potter that much. Those who would make a connection are probably ridiculously hardcore Potterheads, and by the time the kid is old enough to hear jokes/remarks like that, it will be older people making them and seeming anachronistic.

When I hear Harrison, I don't think of Harrison Ford or Harry Potter. I think of this really creepy kid I know named Harrison.

I think of George Harrison. It's not too bad, but a bit too trendy. Harrison James goes nicely, though.

I love the name Stephena and the middle name Morrissey, but I wouldn't want to use them together because the singer Morrissey was called Steven Morrissey so it would just be like I was naming my son completely after him.

And I really, really want to name my daughter Liz Lemon but I caaaaaaan't.

When the first name is actually a surname that's uncommon as a first, and the surname is MORE common as a first name, when it's written, it will always look like the kid's name is James Harrison.

Off-putting.

Harrison doesn't immediately make me think of Harrison Ford, but this might be because I know a guy named Harrison.

I had no idea Harry Potter's middle name was James, and I don't think it's a problem you'll run into very often.

Harrison James sounds pretty good to me! I didn't think of Harry/James until you mentioned it =)

I don't really hesitate to use any names for the same reasons you do, but I like a lot of color/nature names. So sometimes I end up with a combination like Violet Skye...which sounds good, but I don't think I'll ever use. But that has more to do with the fact that Violet isn't on my toplist =)

Yes, I immediately think of Harrison Ford, but that's a good thing IMO.

Harry Potter doesn't come to mind at all; I think Harrison James is great!

I think it sounds nice. Harrison was a name that my mom considered for me if I had been a boy. The Ford association will always be there, but it would only be briefly then people get over it. There is an association with almost every name.

My cousin's son (my cousin once removed)is named Harrison. I didn't really like it at first when my cousin and his wife announced that was the name he chose, but once I saw it on him- I loved it. I never think of Harrison Ford, and we never call him Harry, so I wouldn't make the connection to HP.

I'm a big HP fan and I didn't even associated the name Harrison James with Harry James.

I like Harrison James though, I think it's lovely.

Some friends of mine are naming their baby Harrison. Mostly because she vetoed Indiana. LOL

But really, I like the name and most people won't get the reference.

I know this is a really late reply but Harrison is my favourite boys name! And I love Harrison Ford so I wouldn't care one bit about any associations ;)
