Jan. 31st, 2008 09:35 pmNone of these are on my lists, nor am I really interested in adding them. I just wondered what people think of them:
BOYS
Joel
Damian
Wesley
Kelly
Randall
Stefan (pr. Stef-in)
Ian
Asa
Leland
Leigh
GIRLS
Anya
Anastasia
Lydia
Regina
Antonia
Colleen
Michaela (pr. Muh-kella)
Elianah
Arielle (pr. R-E-L)
Aimee
Shana (pr. Shaw-na)
ETA: In case you were wondering, I like Joel, Kelly(b), Stefan, Wesley, Asa, Leland, Anya, Lydia, Antonia, Arielle, and Aimee. I like Shana-pronounced-Shay-nah, and Michaela-pronounced-Muh-kella could grow on me. I don't like Regina, Colleen, Leigh (feminine spelling; love Lee, though), or Randall. I'm indifferent about the others, but thought they sounded different/interesting compared to the ones we often hear in this community.

Date: 2008-02-01 02:52 am (UTC)Joel - Not a fan of this one
Damian - again not a fan
Wesley - Its cute. My friend is a teacher and I hear stories of a cute kid named Wesley but I can't say I love the name
Kelly - all girl to me.
Randall - Thats my friends name :) I like it. He goes by Randy a lot which I also like.
Stefan (pr. Stef-in) - I like it
Ian - I like this one
Asa - nope
Leland - not a fan
Leigh - more girl to me
GIRLS
Anya - i like
Anastasia - love
Lydia - nms
Regina - too old for me
Antonia - its ok
Colleen - nms
Michaela (pr. Muh-kella) - I like it but I pn it Mick-kay-lah..which I like better
Elianah - Love spelt Eliana
Arielle (pr. R-E-L) - Nice but to Little Mermaid for me
Aimee - I like Amy better. Another friends name. Its nice.
Shana (pr. Shaw-na)- This name irks me..but thats because my name is Shanna (pn Shan-nah ..like Hannah but with the S) and my name is misspelled as Shana and mispronounced Shaw-na all the time. I like my name a lot better than Shana.

Date: 2008-02-01 02:54 am (UTC)I've always loved Damian.
Wesley I didn't like for a while, but I do like it now!
All of the ones after that aren't particularly appealing or unappealing to me, although I knew a guy named Leland who was very boisterous and friendly and it fit him perfectly, so it has good associations for me.
I ADORE Anastasia and Lydia. I prefer Reggie for a girl over Regina (and no, I did not get that from cartoons. I promise). Antonia is kinda cute. Elaine > Elianah, but it's not too bad. I like Shana, but when it's pronounced "shane-a".

Date: 2008-02-01 03:59 am (UTC)I love Lydia, too, and I prefer that pronunciation of Shana. Shaw-nuh is growing on me, though, because it's the name of one of my closest friends (spelled Shana), but I dislike the name Shawna-spelled-this-way, so it's taken me a while to warm up to it.

Date: 2008-02-01 02:57 am (UTC)Joel - not a fan
Damian - sounds kind of sinister...but it's alright
Wesley - love it
Kelly - girl's name
Randall - nerdy
Stefan (pr. Stef-in) - don't like
Ian - this is alright
Asa - i actually like this, but would never use it
Leland - no
Leigh - the spelling is too feminine for a boy
GIRLS
Anya - i like this, but it reminds me of the girl from so you think you can dance
Anastasia - alright but overdone
Lydia - like this
Regina - not a fan
Antonia - not a fan
Colleen - not a fan
Michaela (pr. Muh-kella) - never heard it pronounced like that, but not a fan of this or the normal "mikayla" pronunciation.
Elianah - kind of sounds pretty, but not my style at all
Arielle (pr. R-E-L) - alright
Aimee - nah
Shana (pr. Shaw-na) - nope

Date: 2008-02-01 03:03 am (UTC)Joel--- I had a horrible horrible boyfriend named Joel. I hated the name before him, but I hate it even more now.
Damian--- I don't mind it, but I wouldn't use it either.
Wesley--- Sounds too much like a last name to me, which I don't like.
Kelly--- Hate it on both sexes.
Randall--- I don't mind Randall, but hate Randy.
Stefan--- I like it.
Ian--- Like it as a middle name. Personal reasons.
Asa--- Don't like.
Leland--- Meh.
Leigh--- No. Don't like.
Girls:
Anya--- I like how it looks, not necessarily fond of the sound.
Anastasia--- Sounds too frilly or magic-ish to me.
Lydia--- This is a name I used to hate, but it is slowly growing on me.
Regina--- Sounds like Vagina. In Canada, there is a city named Regina. It's not pronounced Re-Geena. Sorry, can't get passed it.
Antonia--- Meh.
Colleen--- Hate.
Michaela--- Like the name, but not that pronunciation.
Elianah--- Wouldn't use, but would tolerate.
Arielle--- Alright.
Aimee--- Too common.
Shana--- No.

Date: 2008-02-01 03:05 am (UTC)Joel - i like it
Damian - i like the sound but not the connotation
Wesley - sounds very white trash to me
Kelly - too feminine
Randall - also white trash
Stefan (pr. Stef-in) - yuck
Ian - like it
Asa - unsure. i wouldn't use it, but i'm not sure if i like it.
Leland - perhaps.
Leigh - not for a first name.
GIRLS
Anya - like it.
Anastasia - like it.
Lydia - i like it, but it seems too old for a little girl.
Regina - not particularly.
Antonia - maybe.
Colleen - too old.
Michaela (pr. Muh-kella) - it's muh-kayla every time i've heard it. i don't like it regardless.
Elianah - maybe.
Arielle (pr. R-E-L) - no.
Aimee - maybe as amy but i find the spelling unnecessary.
Shana (pr. Shaw-na) - sounds like a white trash slut to me, but only because every shauna i've known has been one.

Date: 2008-02-01 02:21 pm (UTC)Joel - I never used to like this name, but between Joel Hodgson and Joel Barish, it's grown on me. I still prefer the similar Joseph, though.
Damian - I prefer the Damien spelling, but this is one of my top boy's names.
Wesley - I like the Weston, but Wesley is a really redneck name to me (probably because of my ex-boyfriend's trashy stepbrother by the same name).
Kelly - Don't like it on either sex, but even less on a boy.
Randall - One of my favorite R names, even if it does sometimes make me think of Randal from Clerks.
Stefan (pr. Stef-in) - Ew. No. My name's Stephanie and I don't like that one, either.
Ian - Love it.
Asa - Always sounded girly to me.
Leland - That, too. I love the name, and the meaning, but there's a creepy, rundown town just south of here called Leland, so it doesn't have the best connotations for me.
Leigh - I like Lee quite a bit (for both sexes), but this spelling doesn't do much for me (and I hate it on males).
GIRLS
Anya - Seems like a trendy "cool" name to me.
Anastasia - Could be worse, but not my style.
Lydia - Always liked this name.
Regina - Don't really like this one, although it's not awful.
Antonia - Pretty.
Colleen - Love it.
Michaela (pr. Muh-kella) - Eh.
Elianah - The h seems superfluous to me. Otherwise, very pretty.
Arielle (pr. R-E-L) - Can never hear it without thinking of The Little Mermaid. No likey.
Aimee - I used to like only Amy, but I was doing family research and found that one of my great-great-great-great-grandmothers was called Aimee (short for Ambrosia). After doing some researhing, I've really come to admire her, and both the full name and nickname have really grown on me.
Shana (pr. Shaw-na) - I don't mind it with the Shawna spelling, or maybe even Shauna, but Shana looks like "shay-nuh," to me, and I really, really don't like that name.
