[identity profile] demons-away.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So I've basically been fascinated with names for as long as I can remember. I'm not planning on having any children for at least another 8 years but I really love thinking about names for my potential children.

When I was younger I used to favor the more unusual spellings but I've grown up from that now.

Some of my favorite names...

Girls; Emmeline, Annabelle, Isabel/Isabella, Molly, Lucy, Lilly, Helena

Boys; Liam, Jack, Max, Seamus, Sebastian

So I suppose I like classic names that are on the unusual side because they are not as widely used... (My name is Kathryn, so that may have something to do with it).

What do you guys think?

I like Isabel, Molly, Lucy, Helena, and Anabel (although I prefer simply 'Anna'). I don't like this spelling of Annabelle (although it's okay), and I don't like Isabella at all. Lilly is okay, but I've always had a hard time picturing this working on adults. I hate Emmeline. Emma is so trendy and overused (although I guess I shouldn't talk, since Emily is one of my favorites) and Emmeline will end up getting shortened to it. I just...argh. I hate Emma.

For boys, I love Jack, Max, and Seamus. Sebastian and Liam are okay, but the latter is overused.

We actually have pretty similar taste in names, I think, but there's not much overlap.

PS - If you want something classic, but not 'widely' used, I'd stay away from Emmeline (which, like I said, will most likely be shortened to Emma by everyone else, whether you like it or not), Isabella, Jack, and Liam. They are some of the most overused names right now. I love Jack, but the others are horrendously trendy.

If you don't like Emma, I'd definitely avoid using it. I totally prefer Emmeline, but people will probably shorten it, and it's quite likely that she'd prefer it. If there are names that you can't stand the nicknames for, that are quite common (ie, Samuel/Sam, Daniel/Dan, etc.) it's probably best to avoid them.

Anabel is just so much...prettier? I don't know. Like I said, though, I prefer just Anna. Or even Anya, which is gorgeous and a great name, without being overly common.

Emmeline itself isn't that common, it's the Emma part, which it would probably be shortened to by her/her peers. And Emmeline is becoming more common among the people who like Emma/Emily but want to be 'different.'

I like all of them! None of them seem particularly unusual to me, but it could be just because I hang out in here.

None of these are too bad to me, but my favorites are Annabelle (I'm another person who prefers the spellings Anabel or Annabel, though), Isabel/Isabelle, Lily, Liam, Jack, and Sebastian.

Actually, reading over that again, I like the proximity of Jack and Sebastian. Not as a first/middle name set, but as a sibling set, hell yeah.

I really like the name Emmeline (Christian Bale's daughter's name!) but I get confused about the pronunciation and that a really big turn off for me. I don't think I'd be able to use anything that ends in "line", like Caroline, Madeline, Adeline...because I never know whether to prounce them like Emma-LEEN or Emma-LINE.

Emmeline (although my preference is Emaline), Annabelle (Annabel), Isabel, Lucy, Lilly (Lily), Helena (Helen), Molly...all beautiful names!

Liam, Jack, and Max (Maxwell) are all on my list of favorites, too. Sebastian and Seamus aren't bad, either.

Very nice.

Awww, my son is Liam! Yay.
I just hope it doesn't get too popular.
