[identity profile] sloane-hd.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was flipping through the channels earlier this evening and I came across a program with a girl called Aidan. Now, I don't really like the name itself but I think I like it better on girls than on boys.

A girl in my niece's dance class is called Madiken (pn Mah Dee Kuhn), it's German I think.

Also, my mother's name is Bethel. I know it's unusual but to me it's normal. How do you feel about her name?

Madiken kind of makes me laugh because where I live the word/sound (because it's really not a word) KUN is pretty much the equivalent of 'just kidding' and Madiken ending with the sound -Kuhn makes me think that someone almost named their daughter Madison but they were just kidding so...Madi-KUN.

I know a baby girl named Aidan. I think it's a fairly masculine name. I know for me I wouldn't want to be one of the 10 boys in my class named Aidan but even more that that I wouldn't want to be the 1 girl with that name amongst all 10 boys with it.

There is a Bethel in Vermont. It's OK as a name. I am used to Bethany which is another name of a biblical city.
I think Aidan is better for a boy. I like Adrienne for a girl.

I like Bethel a lot. I really like the name Bethlehem, but I would probably never use it.

Madiken reminds me of Madigan...

And I know of a Bethel College... but if I didn't know about the college, it's an okay name. =]

I only know it spelled Madicken, which is from an Astrid Lindgren novel, like someone already said. It's an alright name, I guess.
Since Aidan is such a popular boy's name, I can hardly see it on a girl...but there are worse names for girls out there.
I don't like Bethel at all.

I don't really like Bethel, but that may mostly be because it's the name of a very small and very redneck town not far from where I live. Trying to put that association aside, I still don't think I'd like it much. I love Beth, though.
