[identity profile] sweatydog.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I know I've been posting a ton lately, but after this one I'll rest I promise!

My last poll didn't go over well so here are some new choices.

VOTE on my Name List

Most of the names were either straight up or down - I either liked them or I didn't. I love Aimee, Lilah, Molly, and Anya, James, Harvey, Jesse, Philip, and Julian. I don't like Rhiann, RaeAnne, or Rayanne (they look made up and Rhiann/Ryan is a boy's name whether you butcher the spelling or not), Bailey, Roscoe, or Chase.

The only one I really have a suggestion for is Brett: I love this on girls, but as a nickname. It's much too masculine for a given name. I have heard it used as a nickname for Elizabeth and I LOVE it. It gives her a lot of options if she doesn't want to use a boy's name (she could be Liz, Libby, Eliza, etc.), but she can always use Brett if she likes it.

Rhiannon would be slightly better, since it's actually a girl's name. Since Rhiann and Rhianne are pronounced like Ryan, they're always going to get called "he" and have people think they're guys until they are seen by whoever hears/reads their name. And if they have short hair? Forget it. As a Lindsay with short hair, I'll tell you how many people think I'm a guy, even after they hear my name -- and while it's technically unisex, I've never even heard of a guy with my name. I'm thinking with Rhiann/Rhianne it would be even worse.

Trust me on this -- it sucks being mistaken for a guy, even when you're really open minded about sexuality and gender (hey, I'm a lesbian, and very open-minded, and even I get annoyed with it). Go with a name that specifies gender. If they want something more unisex, they can always change it or find a nickname, but it's harder to go the other way.

I've only heard Rhianne pronounced ree-ANN, not like Ryan. I don't think it would be mistaken for a boy's name, though Rhiann might be.

I would say them both as Ryan, or at least Ry-anne.

I love Hunter Kieran and Phillip Chase for boys.

For girls, I liked Cathleen Eleanor and Autumn Josephine.

I don't like Brett on its own for a girl, but it's cute as a nickname.

I don't like Rhiann/RaeAnn/etc., really, but Rhianne, Rhianna, or Rhiannon would be nice.

Noting both Rayanne (love it, love it, love it) and Angela on the list, I have to ask, are you a "My So-Called Life" fan?
