What do you think of Rosin (Roz (like the Wizard of Oz with an R), for a girl?
I'm a cellist, so it has an association to me that I like, and I think it sounds pretty.

Also, is anyone here familiar with Roisin Murphy? Do you know how she pronounces her name?

I think it sounds kind of corny -- kind of like the music teacher I know whose daughter's name is Cadence. It's cute, but way too gimmicky for my tastes. Roz is a cute nickname, though. I like it as a middle name, maybe.

I have heard Rosalyn (in the south pronounced Roz-a-lyn) with the nickname Roz.

I'm fairly sure Roisin is generally pronounced Rahsheen, but I could be wrong on the "Roi" part.

Rosin would be an awful name for someone. Out of all the music/instrument related names, Rosin? Really? It's like naming your kid Sap or Syrup.

Well, some would say it is. :P

I like Roslin.

Rosin is what I put on my viola bow and rub on my pointe shoes so they grip the floor. It would be like giving a kid the name Duct Tape or Super Glue. In short: not a fan.

before i read that you were a cellist, i was flipping out. oh my gosh, that tree sap stuff you put on a bow! (i played violin for a year in fourth grade :] )
it's kind of cool, but i'm not sure that i'd go for it.

My best friend is a cellist. =D

It doesn't sound too bad, but I'm not a big fan.

That's...like if I named my child Reed because I play clarinet, only not as good. It's not even as good as Cadence for a drummer's child.

Rosalyn or similar would be a good substitute, though.

Róisín is very high on my list (I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Ro-SHEEN) so I love that one.
Rosin seems incomplete to me, but that's probably because I love Róisín so much.

Rosin means raisin in Norwegian.. NOt an ugly word, just.. It makes me want to eat raisins. Then again, I'm guessing you're not living on Norway, so : )

I knew a girl named Roslyn who went by Roz. I always thought it was cute/unique.
