my boyfriend has 5 sisters. just wanted your opinions on their names:

sarah
deborah (debbie)
ricki (short for rivka)
esther (esty)
mark
miriam

also, his cousin just had a baby and named her harriet mary. wdyt? i'm not a fan of harriet at all and i think the full name is just kind of..mature sounding. i would have gone for a more youthful middle name.

Rivka is a beautiful name being ruined by Ricki. Sorry, but I just don't like Ricki at all. Esty is a really cute nickname for Esther, however. :)

Harriet is growing on me (old-fashioned names are definitely back in vogue), but I don't care for it paired with Mary. I agree, a more youthful middle would have been nice.

well, all of the children (except for miriam, i think) were originally given hebrew names (for example: mark was mordecai), but later on the family decided to sort stop (for lack of a better word) being so strict with their judaism..so all of the children were instead called something else..basically just to make them feel more "normal" and to avoid potential mean nicknames from other kids.

Love Rivka, Sarah & Miriam are alright.
I dislike all the nicknames, and I think it's crazy to come up with a nickname for Esther!

I also really like most of the names in your boyfriend's family. Sarah, Rivka, Esther, and Mariam are great. I don't like Deborah or Mark much, but they're both okay names.

Rivki is a much nicer nickname for Rivka, I think. It's standard Yiddish.

they all had old-fashioned jewish names in the beginning (except for miriam, i think), but if you see another comment i made, they got changed. i'm pretty sure ricki was the only one that didn't get changed. i'm not 100% sure though.

Euhm I don't really like any of their names, and I'm not a fan of Harriet either. I like Mary though.
