James is an absolutely horrendous name to use on a girl. And how much more masculine can it possibly be? Same for Ryan, Randy, and Perry.

I like Taylor on girls (but wouldn't ever use it), Morgan, James, Ryan, Casey, and Ashley on boys, but otherwise I absolutely despise every name on the list, haha. Especially Avery, Ashton, Jamie, Riley, and Blair.

James is horrible on a girl- I love Jamie, but James is such a classic male name that I could never see it on a girl. I know people are determined to do Blake and Ryan on girl's, but those are such male names to me- especially Blake with the hard consonants.

I feel like Randy is only acceptable on a girl as a nickname for Miranda.

And on another note, my dad and his brother are Perry and Randy.

I love Ryan as a girl's name. There's a little girl down the street named Ryan, and she's the most adorable little thing. I also have a female friend named Ashton, which is interesting considering the majority of voters so far seem to think that the name is too masculine for a girl. I've known her for a long time, so maybe I'm biased?

Ashley, Tracy, and Leslie, in my opinion, are too feminine to be used as a boy's name, and Perry is too masculine to be a girl's name. Other than that, I think the rest are acceptable as either gender.

Oh, and James too. I think it's too masculine for a girl.

I love Ryan on a girl, too, but only if it's spelled differently. I.E. Riyann or Rian, even though I'm not one for trendy spellings. =)

I have a question about the name 'Randy'...

...why is it used? Considering it means constantly up for sex. (Although i am English, it may mean something completely different in America?)

I however, i think Ashley is a boys name, and i don't get why it's been used for girls, it's like Paris.

I adore the names Ashton, Blair, Perry, and James.

It doesn't mean that in America. Here it's just a nickname. Usually short for Randall or something else like that. I have no idea what it would be short for on a little girl though.

Me too, but I thought randy meant horny, not sex.

I think that's what they meant, if you're constantly up for sex, you're probably horny.

Yeah, Austin Powers brought it back a little, but it's no where near what it would be in the UK. It would be like naming your kid Horny over there, whereas here it's still an acceptable name because a lot of people don't make the connection because it's not American slang. We picked it up from the UK.

It does mean the same thing in America, it just isn't as widely used. I alway giggle to myself when I meet an old guy named Randy. It is not a very popular nickname anymore.

It's not really used too much anymore, mostly because it's kind of a "Dad" name- it peaked in the 1950's and 60's and hasn't been used too much since then. It was generally short for Randall or Randolph, although some people just used Randy.

I'm sure that in that time period, Americans weren't familiar at all with the British sex connotation and even now it's not really used to the extreme that it is in England.

It is used occasionally for girls (generally spelled Randi) as a nickname for Miranda, although it peaked as just Randi during the same period as it did for boys- probably playing off the unisex nickname trend of that time period (Terri, Toni, Jeri, etc.)

I'm familiar with "randy" in terms of being up for bumpin', but, yeah, I don't think it's used on the same level here. A few years ago, I had to talk one of my friends out of writing a story with a main character named Randy Clam.

I got a few names into it but then I came across a butt ton of names that make me want to cry no matter who they are used on, so I couldn't finish.

Morgan, Perry, James, Avery, Randy, and Blake are strictly guys names, IMHO; I've never liked Morgan or Avery on a girl, and the others never even crossed my mind. I love Tracy, Ashley, and Leslie on boys, though I would spell Leslie with an "ey" instead of the "ie" since it comes across as more masculine.

That's weird about the Leslie/Lesley thing. My Grandad was called Leslie, and my Mum's middle name is Lesley, so I've always seen it the other way round.

Whoops! I posted Ryan in the wrong place. I think Ryan is much more masculine, while Ryann or Rianne or any variations like that are far more feminine.

I've always, always, always loved Jamie on a boy and HATED it on a girl. I wanted to name my son Jamie but I was peeved with the whole "my girls name is Jamie!" trend.

Oops! Meant to vote A (too feminine) for Ashley. I realise it is a unisex name, but I'm bias as I'm an Ashleigh, and even though the spelling's different it still sounds weird to me on a guy.

Ones I didn't vote anything on, but I can't stand them on either sex:
BLAIR
RILEY
RANDY

I know some people love James for a girl, but seriously, who the hell actually think its too feminine for a boy? Nothing about it sounds feminine.
