I absolutely adore Donovan. I wanted to name my second son Donovan. However, there are about a million Dons in my husband's family. And they shorten names all the time. So he would have been Don, or Donny, or DJ (our last name is Jackson). And it would have driven me nuts, because I love the name Donovan just as it is. Without being shortened. It's definately too nice of a name to be subjected to a nickname. *nods*
Yeah, you couldn't name someone that here, for that reason. I find it too hard to think past that association to even consider whether it sounds good or not.
Generally, I'm really not a fan of Bailey (for either gender), but Donovan is okay.
I think of Donovan as a really hippie name. I don't especially like it. I wonder if they'll call him Mellow Yellow (I'll just go ahead and immediately apologize for that).

I hate name where you can't tell... I know Donovan is usually a boy's name, but I have also heard of it for a girl. Just wondering...
