In light of Heath Ledger's death, I remembered he had the cutest little daughter (who looks just like him), with the cutest little name.

What do you guys think of Matilda?

I think its really cute. I actually never was too fond of it when I heard of his daughters name when she was born, it began to grow on me. It suits her well I think...she's adorable.

Rest in Peace Heath Ledger :(

LOVE it!
And I like the nick name Milly.
I would use it if I could convince hubby.

I also like the nick name Hildie for it (cos I would spell it Mathilda).

When I worked at a hotel, telephone booking agencies would ask for my name as confirmation dozens of times a day. I told them "Tessa" and inevitably the paperwork would come back with "Peffa", "Sarah", "Pepper", "Terra", "Tara", "Jessa".... the most inane, insane variations of that two-syllable vowel arrangement imaginable.

One day I told my coworkers if they got anything through accountable to Matilda, it would be mine. And it worked. Matilda is super easy to recognize to most nationalities' ears, and although it every so often created additional questions ("Do you spell it with an H?" or "[prolonged Aussie chuckle]... Are you waltzing?"), it was generally a very practical name.

So I like it.

I like it. I didn't think much of it when I heard they had named her Matilda, but now it's growing on me. It's pretty nostalgic for me, because of Roald Dahl.

My uncle used to call me Matilda Junkbottom. Don't think I'd name my kid Matilda after that.

That was from an old cartoon I used to watch on Nickelodeon called "Dr. Snuggles." Matilda Junkbottom was a robot he created (picture here: http://www.doctorsnuggles.com/Characters/Images/Mathilda_Junkbottom.GIF). I haven't thought about that show in YEARS.

The name seemed so familiar for me to some reason, I had to go Google it. Now I'm having flashbacks from being like, three/four years old!

I think it's especially cute with the middle name they gave her too, which is Rose.

I like it, but I'm not sure how well it would fit an adult.

A colleague of mine just had a daughter named Matilda Eve a couple of weeks ago. I like it...but it feels a little twee to me.

It's been one of my favorite girl names for a long time. The fiance and I plan on using Mathilda Jane or Mathilda Paige.

It's ok, but in Australia it would always remind people of "Waltzing Matilda" and considering that Australia is where I live, I wouldn't use it :P

I like it. I even like the nicknames you can generate from it - Mattie, Tillie, Tilda (reminds me of Tilda Swinton).

I think Matilda is pretty, but Tilda is actually one of my favorite names. I'd use Tillie for a nickname.

It's okay, as long as the nn isn't Mattie. Otherwise it lumps itself in with Madison, Madeline, etc.

I'm not the biggest fan, but if you have to go with it, I say spell it Mathilde. (pronounced the same way as Matilda).

I completely agree with this. Mathilde is the best spelling. :)

I was thinking last night that Mathilda and Tabitha would be really cute names for twin girls. I couldn't think why I'd suddenly thought of it but I did read about Heath Ledger yesterday so maybe that's where it came from.
