I would like to use James Burke Arrington as a boy name. After my brother, James, and gradfather-in-law surname, Burke. I'm thinking to call him Burke since my brother's name is James. Hubby doesn't really want to use Burke as the everyday name, so....

My question is what are other nicknames for James other than Jamie or Jimmy? I would really like to avoid Jimmy because we live in the south and Jimmy just sounds redneck around here. LOL.

Heh, my uncle's name is James Burke. He goes by Jim or Jimmy, though. I suppose you could use Jake or Jack, even if they're not traditionally related to James. Jem, too, although that seems very red neck-esque to me.

hmmm, why name him james if you don't actually want to call him that? like i get that you want to honour your brother but your son will be a person of his own...

how about jay for a nickname for james? i can't think of many.

Jamie, Jack, Jay, JB, etc.

I dunno, is Arrington the last name? Perhaps there should be another name. SOMETHING James Burke Arrington. Because if you don't want to actually call him James and your husband doesn't like Burke then I'd suggest finding something both of you would like to use every day and just push those names back one.

I think JB could work as a nickname. Other than that the only one I can think of is Jay. But maybe use James and Burke both as middle names and pick a different first name? That way you're using both names, but you have another one as a first name?

Hm, if you can use Chaz/Chas for Charles, Shaz for Sharon, Baz for Barry, could you use Jaz for James?

'Berk', BTW can be Australian/UK slang for 'idiot'.

James can be shortened to Jem, but the James' I know go by Jim, Jimmy and James. There was one I went to primary school with who went by Jiggs.

I'm currently re-reading the Anne of Green Gables series, and in that, Anne's oldest son, James Matthew, is known as Jem. I like that nickname better than Jim or Jimmy.

There's Jay, and my husband's parents call him Seamus and Shea (Seamus is the Gaelic form of James).
