haven't posted in a while...
so, insomnia got the better of me last night and I was trawling baby_names, and it got me to thinking about names I used to HATE and I found that I've come to like most of them.
Here are just a few examples to get the ball rolling:
Evelyn (I really like this now!)
Norah (Ditto!)
Eleanor
Emma
Ruth
I still can't like a lot of B names, which is funny because I'm a Bianca. I cringe whenever I see Bethany, or Beatrice, or Briana, or Brenda... Urghh! Especially Bethany for some reason. It's just so ugly to me.
Anyway, what are some of the names you used to HATEHATE and now you like?
EDIT: I'm sorry if this has idea has already been done, but I don't recall coming across it?

When I was little, I remember thinking Catherine was stuffy and for old ladies. 20 years later, that's what I named my first daughter.

Catherine is a beautiful name, but I only like that spelling. Do you have other kids? What are their names?

No others... not until late August, anyway. We're only just starting to talk names, though I'm not sure there's much point. We have a shortlist of favorite boy's names and would just wait to see him and pick one, and we had a terrible time choosing a girl's name and likely will again. Catherine wasn't named until 18 hours after she was born and it was the first time we'd ever discussed that name.
So either way, we probably won't pick one until birth.

Norah is amazing. Both these names remind me of WWII.
I really like Eleanor, which is sadly gaining in popularity if I'm not correct?

It's my friends middle name and she used to absolutely hate it, infact she'd pretend she didn;t have a middle name!
It reminds me of WW2 also, Pearl Harbour perhaps?

Haha, yah, because of the movie for me.

I'm starting to like Esther and some of those other old lady names...

I don't like many B names, either. I love Beth, but hate Brenda, Briana, Beatrice, etc. Bianca is really pretty, but not one I'd ever use.

and others are Georgia, Greer, Harper, Violet

I used to hate the name Megan but now it's on my top 5. I'm sure there's more but I've just forgotten that I used to hate them...

I came to like Astrid because of the book 'White Oleander', and I now like Amanda because of some great women who were both named Amanda =)

My great aunt's name is Civilene (not sure of the spelling, actually), and I've always loved that name. It's one step cooler than Evelyn for me, while still being very similar.

Good job on calling your daughter Norah! It's a beautiful name. I've never met anyone called Nora/Norah, though, it's obviously quite rare here.

Also Mallory, it's growing on me.

I really dislike most B names, but I think it was probably the 12349 Britneys in my grade school classes that ruined most B names forever. (With the notable exception of Bruno ;)

Just curious, what's your middle name? I'm Bianca Elaine Nichole. I like to tell people the minute they learn my named they learned a Italian word for the day. haha.

Unfortunately most non-Italian Australians can't pronounce my name right and it ends up sounding horrible (like bi-YANG-ka), so I was toying with changing my name, until I realised just how much paperwork and legal stuff I would have had to do...
