darsynia.livejournal.comMy husband and I both have really common names (think Jennifer and James Smith, basically), and when we had our daughter, we named her Carolyn. I just found out I'm pregnant and I would like some suggestions! I have a few... criterion, I guess you could say.
I want to say up front that I actually love a lot of the names I'm ruling out here, so I don't mean to judge anyone who named their children names the fit these! We're looking for:
=> Traditional sorts of names, without unique spellings (no Cathwren, etc.)
=> We're avoiding really common names like Sarah or John
=> Old-fashioned names are great (like Evelyn or Colin)
{=> All three of our names have 3 syllables, so that would probably flow best, but not required}
=> Not looking for... not sure how to phrase this... No very Bible-like names like Levi or Esther
Basically we're looking for a balance of not too common (like Carolyn) but not the kind of name that would get a 'trying too hard' side-eye. There are some really unique names I love to pieces but they just won't work with Smith and three other, older family members with more common, traditional names. My daughter has a cousin named Amelia, and that's another name right along the same line of what we're looking for for the next one. Don't know our baby's sex yet, though!
Some of the ones I've thought up on my own:
Girls:
Julia or Julianne
Abigail
Lily (though a friend named his daughter this, she's 6 and told us we could totally use her name, lol)
Boys:
Martin
Jackson (though this is apparently more common lately?)
Zachary Zackary
David (pretty common, but I LOVE it)
