Fishies!

I went out and bought 5 new fish yesterday. And of course, picked absurd names for them all. None of my friends seem to quite appreciate my naming selection, but I figure someone in here might. :-D

Camelopardalis (a constellation)
Ceridwen (Welsh for 'blessed poetry)
Chernobog (From Slavic Mythology meaning 'Black God')
Kreios (Greek for Master)
Brythwch (Which the online welsh dictionaries say means 'storm' but I can only find a few sources and I'm not sure how reliable they are. Does anyone here speak Welsh? :-D )

I was originally going to name them all after one of my fandoms... Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Torchwood.. something. But that seemed so limiting. But I stumbled on Kreios by accident and it seemed like fate to have one in there representing The Doctor from Doctor Who. (The Master is a bad guy on the show, The Doctor is the good guy; in case you don't watch). But I couldn't find any translations of 'Doctor' that sounded good, so I went with 'storm' because in some parts of the universe The Doctor is known as "The Oncoming Storm". :-D [/end geekdom]

It's days like today I realize I need a life. ::eyeroll::

Ceridwen has been one of my favorites for a long time. Not sure about Camelopardalis, I think it's a little too much. The others are nice. :)

I think the names you choosed are just great! Most people don't like to name fishes, but i do! I remember just some of them: Shigeru, Johnny, Junior, Kinki, Arashi, Victory, Smap...

I specially like Kreios and Brythwch (although i don't know the spelling of the last one).

I wouldn't be able to keep fish names straight hah. My dog is named after a star too though. :)

The most creative I got with a fish's name was "Fido" which was short for Fyodor who was named after my friend Ted.

I also had fish named Stan and Kai after the characters in the sci-fi series Lexx. I was like... twelve when we had those fish - two betas - so I can't understand why I was watching Lexx in the first place. But I was. And, in the end, Stan got through the tank divider and more or less ate Kai.

Which is totally opposite of what would happen between the characters they were named after.

Don't you just love that you can give pets any name you like and not having to worry about guilt.

Brythwch is pronounced Vrit-ach.

Well, we baby name fanatics have to have something to dump our crazy fantasies on. XD

Camelopardalis is pretty cool, though, even if I have to say it slowly. Cerisdwen is WIN.
