So my last post got me thinking, do your favorite names have a certain spark to them? Like you can't exactly describe why it works so well, it just feels right?

While I appreciated everyone's suggestions on my post, the names were nice but they didn't have that thing. So I wonder how many of you named your kids (or are going to name them) the perfect name? Or did you just pick a named that you sorta liked and it became special because its now attached to your kid?

It kinda seems like names are like a relationship...you just know when its right. Any other thoughts?

I think that's very true. I can't really explain why I love/hate in most cases. I mean, I can say, "It's not my style," or explain why it's a bad idea to use that name (trendy, horrible misspelling, nickname, etc.), but I can't ever be like, "This is why I love ______ and plan to use it on my child." I feel that way, especially, with Thatcher and Harriet, my #1 for each gender. Everyone else totally hates them whenever I say anything about them, but I just...LOVE them.

I actually like both Thatcher and Harriet, but I know what you're saying. I wouldn't use either of them because they're not quite right to me, you know? But if I met a child named Thatcher or Harriet, I would sincerely compliment their parents for picking good names.

My parents actually hate both James and Daphne. They say James is horrendously boring, and Daphne is 'out there', and the name of my dad's least favorite cat growing up. They're going to have to deal. *g*

I love James:) I'm not really into Daphne, but I don't think it's that 'out there' and I don't see it causing problems for her or anything. It's a nice name, just not my style. James is definitely not 'boring.'

Everyone (my parents and the friends I've discussed it with; people in the community tend to like them more) dislikes my favorite names. My top 2 for each gender are Thatcher Michael Timothy, Atticus Carver William, Harriet Adrienne Margaret, and Louisa Harper Grace, and the only one anyone even sort of likes is Louisa. But that's ok, because I doubt I'd use any of them except that one. I'll probably use Elliot, Alexander, Louisa, and Catherine instead and put Harriet and Thatcher as one of the middle names.

That's how I feel about Thatcher. It's a cool, strong name, but I wouldn't use it. *g* I'm glad James isn't 'boring'. I think my name, Katherine, is more boring than James, and I like my name!

I personally don't like the two middle name thing. I think the combos you've selected are great! My favorite is actually Louisa Harper Grace. All three names are on my list. I think it's a great blend of classic, strong, and modern all at the same time. Unless your partner hates them, I wouldn't change those combos. They're pretty dang cool, and aren't silly or weird to me.

My mom says that my dad wanted to name me Daphne (or Tiffany), but she wouldn't let him because she didn't want people calling me Daffy (or Tiffy, for that matter).

If you ask me, ANY name has the potential for silly/demeaning/ridiculous nicknames, so it doesn't really matter what name you choose, in that respect.

I have a couple of names that I hate because of obviously bad nicknames, like Gaylord and Aspen. I hate when people complain that Angus will be called Anus, or Theodore will be called Teddy Bear. Who cares? It's not the end of world!

My fiance wants to call Daphne Daffy. While I don't hate it, I think Dav (more of a V sound instead of an F) sounds better in general and with our last name (Huff).

One of my favorite cats ever was named Daphne, so I'm obsessed with that name. I also really like James.

I'm not sure if my names are exactly 'perfect', but I love them for their quirkiness, their solid feel, and their sound with a family middle name and our last name:

Daphne Margaret Huff -I love Greek mythology, and I think Daphne is going to be a really cool, classy name to have. I love the nickname Dav, and I think it sounds nice with both the middle name, and just saying the first and last together.

James Kenneth Huff -I've always liked James since I was a little girl. I think it's a very strong name, although it's really common. I adore Jamey as a nickname, but I hate Jimmy. I can live with Jimmy, though.

I don't have any kids yet, but I do know that I love my sister's name because of the relationship we have. Amelia's always been the only Amelia in whatever school she's gone to, and know it's rising really quickly up the popularity charts. I think her name is too attached to her for me to use, despite the fact I love it. I want to use a family name for a middle name, so I'm going for Margaret. It's Amelia's middle name, it's my grandmother's name, it's a variant of my mother's name (Margo, who was named after Margaret), and it can be related to my mother in law's name, Mary.

Actually, my favourite names are my favourite names because I like their sound, spelling and meaning/connotation. I've just gone over my list, and this goes for all the names I like!

I totally feel that way. Most of the names that I like are different and nobody likes them, and there is no way for me to explain why I like them. I just do. My top names for each gender I have explanations for, but the rest of my list is full of names that I find just have a good feel.

It's unusual, and if someone hasnt heard it before it more than likely sounds odd which = not quite right.

I wonder if it will go down better now it's out there thanks to The Golden Compass..

Cryrus Jude and Harper Camilla (ca-mill-a, not ca-meel-ya) just have this thing, they flow well, they are completely my style, and i just think they are really good, strong names.

I understand what you said. There are names that sounds just perfect and beautiful for me, but most of the people thinks my names are just "strange" or don't like it.

For example, i think one of my cats' name, Miyabi, is one of the most beautiful names i ever heard, but i know most of the people thinks it's just weird.

My names definitely have that special spark. My choice for a girl name has my favorite name of all time paired with my favorite thing of all time (vague, I know, but I don't plan on posting my name choice on the internet until my baby is born). All the boy names my husband have come up with have deep personal meanings, but none have jumped out to us as being "the one". We have tossed around names such as: Bill Murray (favorite actor and murray was a cat of mine), Tobio, Cecil, Reginald, and Lynx (all cats), Versailles, Tokyo, Nautilus, and Sailor (all things we love, but are a little too weird for the real world).

I agree with you... most of my favourite names are the names that people don't seem to like but I just love. My favourite boys name right now is Rey and the only other person who seems to love it is my partner - but that's what counts, right? ;) I guess it's also because the name Rey has significant meaning for both of us aswell, though. But really, I could care less what people think... it's right a beautiful name to me :)
