[Poll #1446858]

I know there are repeats, but just vote for your favorites in each category.

These are categories in a book called 'A For Atticus'. It's a book full of literary names :) It's back at the library at the moment, so I can't post the author, but it was very interesting.

Boys' names will be coming later on.

My father comes from a large French Canadian family and my aunt has been working on the family tree. She has found names back to the 1700s. I thought I would share ...

Names ... )

I quite like names beginning with Tom and so was wondering what peeps here prefer from the following...

[Poll #1446838]

I'm not sure if I made Tomina up myself or if it's a name that already exists. Anybody know?

What sort of teasing can you think of for the name Aine Keelin (Awn-ya Key-lin)?

Twins (female):

Jolanta and Halinka.

Additional information: The J in Jolanta is pronounced as a 'y'. Both are pronounced phonetically (I think)

I actually don't like either of them (may have something to do with the girls they were attached to) and I don't like the matchiness.

I know most people here hate themed names but how many out there truly pick up a theme right away? Of course I know there are themes that are easy to pick up like naming your kids Jude, Sadie and Lucy or Poe, Hernest and Virginia but I was thinking of names I like  and I figured I'd like the meanings of the names I pick to have a theme...

I have posted before of the names I like for girls having to do with the moon and that still stands and it has gone to liking names of basically things having to do with the skies. For boys the theme is not that recurrent since my top picks have nothing to do with the sky but I do like a lot of sky/sun/stars/night themed named in the boy area too.

So... how about it? What would you think of lets say four children 2 b and 2 g named:

 Luna(g), Antares (g), Castor (b) and Apollo (b)

Would you pick up the theme?

Note: those are not my top picks but they are on my list, just randomly picked them.

New babies

Two people I know have had babies in the last week.

A colleague had a baby boy who they have named Archie. I don't like it. It's very trendy in the UK at the moment to give kids these twee, old-fashioned names. Every bloody child I hear of is called Alfie, Archie, Evie, Millie or something similar. Yuk.

The daughter of some friends of my parents also had a boy the other day. She's named him Jidé. How ugly is that? I believe they're pronouncing it Jih-DAY. Her parents are terribly embarrassed.

WDYT?
