You're going to have triplet girls and name them Margaret, Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn and Elizabeth/Elisabeth. What do you call them?

I'd call them Margaret nn Meg or Greta, Catherine nn Cate or sometimes Cat, and Elizabeth nn Libby Lizzie or Ellie. So hard to choose, I can't choose just one nickname I like best for any of them!

You're going to have triplet boys and name them William, Nicholas and Alexander. What do you call them? Just to be clear, you don't have to chose a nickame, you can call them by their full name too.

I choose: Will, Nico or Cole and Sascha.

I was browsing TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8 forum, and I found the following post and figured it'd be fun to do here. =]

I was at the pet store today and saw a big letter from a pre-K class thanking the store workers for taking them on a tour, and all the kids signed it. Most of the names were unusual, but the one that really leapt out at me was Symphanie.

Personally, I hate it.

There was an Iris, though, which I think is pretty. I also noticed Tatum, Axel, Julio and Madison. The rest were illegible to me (the teachers wrote "translations" next to some but not all of the names, and only a few could write well.)

Curious

Does anyone know about legality as far as names are concerned?

I was told by a friend named Magdalena (nn Maggie) that her full name does not fit on a plane ticket. They won't accept "Maggie" because it's not her legal name, but they will accept her middle name as her first, which is Monica.

I don't think she's in the wrong, but I was under the impression that that shortened versions of your full name are legal. For instance, Robert can go by "Bob" without an issue. So long as it's not a person named Anne that goes by "Peanut", or something totally unrelated to their name.

Any explanations or any light on the subject?

There's this freshman girl in my school. Her name?

Precious

A friend of mine commented that she liked the name. Frankly, I think it's horrible, trashy, and fit for a chihuahua with a diamond studded collar.

...Maybe this community thinks otherwise?

There's a set of siblings at my school, two boys and a girl. Adam, Aziz, and Waseela. What does everybody think, about the actual names and then how they go together? I don't really like any of the names to begin with, but Adam doesn't seem to go that well with the other two.

so i have a job where i travel between schools a lot, varying all the way from head start to college. and i hate to say this, but, does anyone else seem to notice that the worst names come in the poorest communities? and i am not talking racial, because this area is pretty un-diverse, unfortunately, in that department.

i was at a school this week that is in the poorest part of the town i was in, and these were just a few of the names...

taurus
sheylimar
donavin
kihara
amiel
doohan
shonna
izaya
saDonte
kierston (boy)
daivon
macey

when i go to one of the other elementary schools in the same town, in a more middle class neighborhood, its a string of grace and elizabeth and catherine and max and lucas... normal, dignified names.

dont people GET that little sheylimar is going to grow up? and dont they want them to at least try to be a respected member of society? or are they just setting her stripper fate in stone?

wdyt?

oh my god! how could i forget the best ones? one of the comments to my last post just reminded me.

the brother and sister team of ford and chevillet (pronounced: shev-ih-lay, yes, like if you said chevrolet really fast and forgot the r)

that also reminds me, i know a woman named chevelle. and for those too young, there used to be a car named the chevy chevelle.

brilliant, i tell you.

Whenever I see someone naming their child Jade I always think, why not Jane? Jade might have been lovely once but it has been used so much that it's generic now. It's going to be the "Marie" of its generation. Or Jennifer. Whereas Jane has endured for centuries and hasn't lost any of its charm. It's feminine, but not overly so. It's not "porny" or "trashy." And its a difference of only one letter.

What other trendy names would you offer alternatives to?

The only other one I can think of is Alexis -> Alice
