I was looking through an Irish baby names website and came across the names Niamh (I prefer it pronounced "nee-iv" instead of "neve" and Nuala "noo-la" or Finnoula "fi-noo-la".  What do you like?  The hubby prefers more traditionally spelled names, but I really like the look of these, especially Niamh, even though I'm sure she will be called "nee-um" or some other version like that.  Help! :)

He is dead set on the name Aolani Nicolette, I think it's pretty...And I am not set on this one just yet.  It doesn't feel like the right one yet.  But I have been looking at other names and I have come acorss these names too:
Noelani-beautiful gift from heaven(very appropriate)
Chloe-In mythology (and in boticellis venus) is Zephyris lover...
okalani-?
Michaela-feminine form of Michael, name of the angel Michael. (it can also be spelled makayla, etc...)
I am in favor more so, and so far, of the first two I listed... and of Michaela They all have beautiful meanings and they tie in well to my beloved step daughters name too...
Her name is Zephyr Michelle.  We really want something unique and beautiful an odd/unusual name for the first name, and a good normal/business name for the middle name.  However in my case I'd really like to extend and hyphenate the middle name to carry on a tradition of passing down my families names.  So if I picked Noelani Michaela it would be Noelani Michaela-Elise/clara...

Either way...I picked up a book that goes beyond the meaning of the name into a study derived out of linguistics and some other hodge podge of reasoning that can tell you the sort of person you may be depending of what your name is.  So far in the section for my name, my Fiance's, my best friends' a few people I work with it has been pretty accurate in describing all of us.  On mine it even worked with my middle name, even though I don't use it often!  So I really want her to have of course a  good unique artistic name, but a strong business name too....

Need help.

I need some name suggestions for two characters.

Setting is 1899, England.

First character: Female. Eighteen years old. Sort of muddy red hair - like wet terra cotta. Golden brown eyes. Slightly on the heavy side.. Rounded face. Very pale. Small yet sharp, penetrating eyes. Fiesty, spirited, temperamental, headstrong, yet still very good-natured. Comes from upper class society.

Second character: Female. Eighteen years old. White blonde, flowy hair, down to her waist. Large pale blue eyes. Petite and thin. Pretty and seraphim-like. Very calm and collected, yet strong-willed. Incredibly intelligent. Her appearance is very delicate and frail but she has a strong figure and can be very intimidating at the best of times. She comes from very low class society. Her father is an artist.

Any suggestions at all would be wonderful. Please keep in mind the time, place, and their positions in society.

The labour story

Me and my partner had split up before baby was due and time was getting on, we hadnt yet been out shopping for the vital things such as a pram, moses basket, milk etc so 3 weeks before due date he came to stay over as we were gonna go shopping the next day, blah blah blah... one thing leads to another and i start to bleed, having previously had an instance like this i decided not to call the hospital through the sheer embarassment i endured last time. Plus i had an appointment with the midwife first thing in the morning.

Couldnt sleep as had mild cramps so decided to go downstairs to watch tv so i wouldnt wake up my partner. I hadnt had any braxton hicks yet so i started to assume when the contractions started, thats what they were. they were getting stronger and more painful but nothing major so i started to wind my hips in a circular motion to ease the pain which really did help, after about an hour i felt a huge urge to pee, ran upstairs, peed a tiny tiny bit then went back down, then for about a solid half an hour i was up and down stairs, still hadnt occured i may have been in labour. The last time i sat on the toilet i couldnt move the pain was quite intense, i shouted my partner, he told me to shut up and come back to bed. I got a huge urge to push and it dawned on me... Im giving birth on the bathroom floor.

I shouted again and screamed the babys coming, he loses his head runs around shouting "oh god dont do this to me", meanwhile im on all fours on the bathroom floor all pride gone shouting dial 999. It was an eventful morning to say the least... 3 pushes and she was out.

Tolga was in more of a panick than me, the ambulance arrived 10 mins later and cut the cord.. and there she was..

It was the most odd experience of my life, i didnt enjoy my last weeks of pegnancy worrying so much about the labour, i really didnt think i could cope and there it was, only about half an hour of intense contractions and i was my own midwife. I didnt have to go to hospital or anything, the was 3 weeks early but perfect and healthy.

Havnt had time to put the photos on a diffrent server so for photos go to www.myspace.com/bexehbaybee

thank you to everyone who helped with names =)

So I just bought the latest issue of Seventeen Magazine and the "best dressed girls in Amerca" section have pretty interesting names. Here are a few:

Saghar
Deryka
Marilyn
Olena
Thecla
Mamie

the rest were basically common names. I don't really like any of them.

What do you think of Gerard and Rupert as brothers for a story set in England?

Not that I've ever wanted to actually have children, but I'm quite certain that I'd name my boys Nikita and Dmitri. The, the other day, I was thinking that in the unlikely event that I get three or four sons it'd be really stupid to stick a some of my other favourite boys names there, like Raphael, Julian, Justin, Jaycee, Jace or Kaycee, in there. With a little thinking I came up with two other boys name of Slavic/Russian origin, namely Alexis and Sasha.

So my question is, how does this subset look:

Nikita
Dmitri
Alexis
Sasha

(I'm aware that three of the names are more common on girls than on boys, but I just think they fit boys better.)
