My boyfriend and I know a guy named Lex and one day we were talking about him and realized we didn't know if it were a nickname or not. We figured it could be a nickname for Alexander. I think I would actually prefer it to "Alex" if for some reason I ever decided to name my kid Alexander. Thoughts?

Edit: I re-read my original post and realised it made very little sense. What I was trying to ask is: how important is it for a child's given name (the one you plan on calling them every day) to be their FIRST name?

For example, if you wanted to call your daughter Anne, but also wanted to give her the name Margaret, which is a family name (i.e. all the woman in your family on your mother's side have it), would you call her Anne Margaret or Margaret Anne? If you chose the latter, would you still feel comfortable calling her Anne instead of Margaret?

Hope that makes more sense!!

Surnames

It's a trend I am kind of ashamed to be a part of, but I can't really help it: surnames as first names. What are your favourites?

For me, )

My name is Sarah Amy (Sera to be different)Wild.

My fiance calls me Eliza, and so I've mushed it together to make Sereliza (or some sort of spelling) and I joke around that its my name.

I'm getting married in 2 and a bit years, and I'm changing my name to Evans and debating whether to change my first name too.

I love Amy, I think its beautiful.

I'm confused! What do you think? If I should even change it!

Cassia?

What do you think of the name Cassia (pn: Ka-sha)

I came across it a few days ago and added it to my list.

At first I thought it was pronounced Cas-see-ah) but after further investigation (and then help of miss_tee and museofmyself...thanks) it was determind to be typically prounounced as Ka-sha)

what do you think?

I seriously should be studying for my Analytical Chem final tomorrow, but this question has been on my mind all day and I can't concentrate until I have an answer.

What are female names where Tim could be used as a nickname? The only ones I can think of is Timothea and Timea. But there have to be names that don't start with Tim and can still use it as a nickname, right?

Also, besides Constance and the names associated with it, are there names that would have Connie or Konnie as a nickname?

Any suggestions would be appreciated- it's literally been driving me nuts today. And I need my mind to be focused on other things than names...

So, I realized that it's been a while since I last posted my list. I'd just like to point out that a number of these names I would never actually use on a living human being, but, rather, just like in theory.

My list. )

My list probably makes it really easy to guess which television shows I watch, etc. :D

none of them are my absolute favorites at all, i just thought they were interesting. i think they're basically middle names that could fit onto ANY name.
