What is up with my names meaning?
May. 8th, 2006 12:06 pmEDIT: I'm posting this cuz I was given this name today 22 years ago! *beams with birthday glow*
Rosalie: From French ROSALIA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Italian
Late Latin name derived from rosa "rose". This was the name of a 12th-century Sicilian saint.
This makes no sense. Why is my name from the French Rosalia, which has Italian Usage? Does it actually mean that Rosalie is the French form of Italian Rosalia? I cringe to think how the French pronounce it...
Margaret:
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
Pronounced: MAHR-gret, MAHR-gur-et [key]
Derived from Greek μαργαριτης (margarites) meaning "pearl". Saint Margaret was martyred at Antioch in the 4th century. She is the patron saint of expectant mothers. Another famous bearer was Queen Margaret I of Denmark, who united Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in the 14th century. The name was also borne by Margaret Mitchell, author of 'Gone with the Wind'.
I am fascinated with my middle name now. I used to hate it. I only knew about Queen Margaret.
What do ya'll think of Rosalie Margaret? Should I start introducing myself as RosaMeg? j/k :D
