"If I like a name, I'll use it. I don't care how popular it is."
I checked this one, however, there are no names in the top 20 that I like enough to consider using. If my favorite name ended up in the top 20, I would probably still use it.
I clicked on the top 100 but if it is in he top 300-400 I still won't use it. It mainly depends upon how it has fallen or risen in recent years. If say it was number 385 this year and next year it is 554, I'd probably use it.
My rule with popularity is that it needs to be something with staying power - that is, a name like Emily, Michael, Andrew, William, etc. is okay because while it's in the top 10, it's not a name that someone hears and automatically thinks, "2007!" A name like Madison, Addison, or Nevaeh is out no matter what year it is, because they're really trendy and have shot up the list very quickly. I'd use a name like Emily, even if it was #1, if I liked it a lot and was a classic, timeless name (which it is).
It's hard to say whether I'll *never* get sick of any name I like, I can't see into the future: so for now I just put my top for each gender instead. :-)
I agree with a previous commenter that I wouldn't hesitate to use a CLASSIC name, just because it was popular. But I would never use a trendy one.
I think there's a difference between "popular" and "trendy". I love names like Anna and Amelia and it's sad that they're so popular, but it won't keep me from using them--although I do intend on using Annabeth as an alternative, since Anna really is so commonly used. But, yeah. It's a factor, but not the only one.
I plan on using Annabeth as a middle name for Claire, because Anna = my best friend, and Elizabeth = my great grandmother, so it's a great way to honor them both without using both full names.
I get sick of names easily when I hear them a lot...but if I like a name enough, I'll use it anyway, and that goes for both "filler" middle names and popular names. Honestly though I don't get how a middle name can be "filler". I would ALWAYS choose a name that goes well with the first name, whether its a family name or one I just like. I wouldn't pick a name I didn't like because it went with the first name well, but I don't think anyone would. So theres no difference between Jacqueline Grace and Jacqueline Camille to me...both go well, so how can either just be "filler"? Grace just happens to go well with more names, and its more accessible.
For the middle name question, I said "If I like it, I'll use it. I don't care that it's considered a filler," which is kind of misleading. Both Elizabeth and Jane can be considered to be "filler" middle names, but I love both names as names themselves and would use both as first names, too (at least, I would Jane if I could ever find a middle name that went well with it). What upsets me about filler middle names is when people pick a name like Marie or Lynn that they don't really like but use just because they're lazy and it flows well.
"List two names (one for a boy, one for a girl) that you know you'll never get sick of." - Are you implying that you are asking for a a boys' name and girls' name that are at least somewhat popular but that we still like, or are you asking for a name that may or may not be popular already but that we'd still love even if it were very popular? I think I may answer those versions differently so I was just curious...
