I say it like Island, except without the ND. EYE-la.

I would say Ees-la, since that's the Spanish pronounciation.

I have a girl in the school I teach at who is Mexican and has the name Isla. She goes my Ees-la too. The name is really growing on me lately :-)

Eye-la

If I'm saying the name, I'm saying EYE-la.
If I'm referring to a Spanish-speaking island, I'm saying EES-la.

EYE-la, like 'island'

if you were to read it with an EE sound, then you'd have to go with EE-z-la, like the spanish word.

When I see it, I think "EES-lah," as in that awesome Madonna song with the Spanish title, "La Isla Bonita." But if I'm thinking of it in terms of a name for a child, I tend to correct myself mentally and consider it pronounced EYE-luh.
